Are you saying you already have it? [I hope not, for your sake. Cause they are not released yet. :)]
Where did you get it?

And like the gentleman said... a pic would be great. :)

i got it from an authorized dealer from the online auction site, i dont wanna break the rules by making a link to it. i emailed him and this is was his whole response
"RAT Cutlery, which became ESEE Knives, made them for a brief time. Production has now ceased. It is not a Limited Edition like a numbered series."
looks like i got duped, i should have just gotten it from the-knife-connection or somewhere and saved the extra $ ...

If he misrepresented it demand your money back!

Sounds to me like he misrepresented the knife, I'd being talking with him about refunding the money. And if he is in fact an authorized dealer, I'd inform RYP or ESEE about what happened. If he has in fact misrepresented the knife or tricked you into paying more for the knife they should know about it. Just my personal opinion....

I knew it was only a matter of time before this started. Having worded that differently would have been better. I think he is well within his rights to charge a higher price now if he so chooses since they are no longer made by Rowen/ESEE and those will be rare in the future. Isn't charging more for something like that a normal part of capitalism? However I don't think using the phrase "Limited Edition" was the right way to go about it because there was a limited edition numbered run...I have one of those.

Yeah, I agree with Mistwalker. The guy is probably going to say it's a Limited Edition, as in "Limited Edition ESEE-Produced HEST".

Don't agree with it, but that's probably what his argument will be. The alternative would be to send it back and buy one cheaper elsewhere or just wait until they are produced again by whatever the new company is producing them.

i'm just curious how much you paid for the "limited" sales pitch.

there are some listed now for 98.97 and 109.95 which seem like reasonable prices since they include free shipping.

if it's more than $120 plus shipping, i'd be a little bent out of shape, but more at myself for not investigating further.

as always, the rule is "caveat emptor" IOW, "engage brain before opening mouth or wallet"

calling all the ESEE production HESTs "limited edition" may be stretching it a bit, but it's still a technically factual statement. it's the same as calling all 2010 cars "limited edition" because the year's almost over and in most cases the model year is over.

i paid $110 for it (and very happy with the quality of the product would have paid 200) but there are lots of others from dealers for about $90 i know its only 20 bucks but i would have put it towards the AH or gas lol diesel aint cheap .... its just i though it was something different in the other auctions they say they sold all of the LEs

I have two of the first run fixed blade Hest's, numbers 5 & 6. My two are numbered on the back side of the blade at the top on the opposite side of the bottle opener from the RYP initials. If yours doesn't have a number there, it is not one of the first run numbered knives. I would suggest looking under the scales. On some (not sure if all) of the original RAT-3's that weren't the MIL variaty, there were serial numbers under the handles. I'm not sure if this was done with the Hest's, but since Rowen made the first run and subsequent retail versions of the fixed blade Hest there is a chance they may have serial numbers under the handles as well. Someone who has a retail purchased Hest could easily confirm this to be true or not. Unfortunately I only have my two first run copies so cannot help in that way.

The cost of the original first run numbered fixed blade Hest's was 139.98 plus 11.20 shipping, for a total of 151.18 each (the total on my two was 302.36). I would think that someone selling an original first run fixed blade Hest would want at least the 151.18 amount for one. (Of course the 151.18 amount included the signed certificate and book signed by RYP).

By the sound of the sellers description you posted, it is a little misleading. You should probably contact him and see if he will at least refund a few dollars. However unless he listed it as a First Run numbered knife in his description, you really don't have much recourse.

Best, Les.

i wouldn't lose any sleep over that $20, and i don't think i'd bother with dealing witht he frustration of trying to get anything back from the vendor.

brown bag it for lunch for the next week or two, choose a cheaper gas station to buy your fuel at or take some other cost cutting measure like not getting a $5 coffee.

just examples of general ways to save a few bucks there an there that will probably add up to more than the cost of the knife, not that there's anything wrong with spending a little extra if it suits you and you have the budget for it, but you mention the cost of fuel, so i'm assuming that you're "normal'" and have to fit things into the budget. but at the same time, a lot of normal people blow loads of cash on little shit that they don't think about.

guess i need to hunt a little harder, because the last time i looked at the cost of the fixed HEST the prices were not in the $90 range.would still like to get one for the tankbag on the bike.

didn't read all the other auctions, just skimmed them briefly, but didn't catch anything about "being out of LEs" i'll have to go back and look again. that seems odd. since AFAIK, the only LEs recently have been the 250 HESF/Fs which were only available directly from DPx, and the numberd ones fom the first run, which i wasn't even aware of until this thread. those have evidently been gone for a long time and seems unusual that they'd still be mentioning it as they were probably never available at auction unless someone was reselling them.

There was a numbered first run done when the DPx HEST fixed blade was created. There were 250 numbered units. Each one has a signed certificate and a personally signed book.

I didn't get a signed certificate with mine, but I do have the book signed as I bought it here at a local book store and you signed it at Blade.
