HEST handles

I've been thinking about the HEST handle and am leaning toward using a paracord wrap vs. the hollow handle.

1. The handle is smallish and can only hold a few small items, maybe some monofilament and a couple hooks, maybe a $100 bill, maybe a cyanide capsule.

2. One of the strengths of the HEST is that it's designed to be lashed to a pole or staff. Having a paracord handle means you have lashing material with you.

3. I'm going to try a re-wrap and see if I can wrap a small ferro rod into the handle. I think this would work well.

How will you use your HEST handle?
 
That wrap looks great. It gives me a renewed appreciation for the knife.
I sort of lost interest in the HEST when it got the micarta so it's nice to see it back in minimal form.

There will eventually be a large-ish plastic capsule for use with a wrapped handle, if I remember correctly. Saw it at SHOT this year. :)
 
Cord wrap was pretty much how the knife was designed.

It's pretty comfortable in the hand either way so I think the advantage goes to having it wrapped.

You are correct seen many a pic of it online. im a sucker for the micarta slabs though prob put a small ferro rod in them and some wrapped up tinder.
 
Well I decided to change it.

Woven into the wrap is a 2.5" ferrocerium rod. You can see how the wrap is less symmetric in the picture. (OK not a great picture, but it was dark out.) The rod creates a very slight bulge in the handle.
Actually feels quite good in the hand.

I prefer the light green color paracord, but black is what I had on hand. Used about 7' with the long tail. I got the wrap pretty tight, but think it looks OK. Now with the ferro rod and 7' of lashing line,
I think this is the right way to carry the HEST. At least for me. :D

Rotte,that looks great! I will be wrapping my 2nd HEST that way, I'm gonna leave the #ed one as is.
 
Sorry if this has been asked before but what is that smallcutout on the top of the blade for?

solid pics of the cord wrapping.. i'm trying to decide if i want one of these to go w/ my izula or if i should just skip and get an RC-4....
