Well folks, the mailguy just dropped off my DPX HEST and it took me all of a second and a half to open the box. What I found inside took me by surprise, not that I didn't know what was in there but I had no clue how awesome it would be. Pictures and internet reviews just don't do this little pocket Rambo justice. It feels like it was designed around my hand and the balance is incredible. The quality is typical ESEE, pure cutlery perfection but the usefulness I can tell already will exceed the hype. I originally wanted this knife to be my first ESEE but after reading a lot of poopoo on the thing decided to go with a RC3 in desert instead. I like that knife but it doesn't inspire me as the HEST does. Just holding it makes me want to cut crap up. It's feel is totally different than the 3. The scales are a little fatter which is good because the 3 seems a little thin for my hand. The knife is lighter even though it is a lot thicker. It also seems like it will be easier to carry. I could go on and on about how much I like this knife but won't, you get the idea. I will try to get some pics up tomorrow but you have seen the thing anyway. Now I am thinking about selling off the 3 as the HEST will do everything I need from the 3 and a whole lot more. Way to go Mr. Pelton, you have outdone yourself with a fine design!

You caught my attention. Can't wait to see your pics and hear your impression of it in actual use! You do plan on using it and using it hard ....right? :D

I couldn't agree more 7wt! I have been edcing my Hest for the last 6 months. It is a great all around knife, and the perfect "if I only had one tool" IMO. I use it for anything I need and it is built tank tough, and with the ESEE quality we all have come to expect. I know you will enjoy it more everyday. Even though I intend to get all of the ESEE range, I'm holding out for the Junglas right now, the HEST will do all and more most of us will need it for. Congrats on picking up a winner!

I'm definitely loving mine. I'll try to get some more pics of it in use soon as well.

I didn't get a chance to get out today to split some sticks and what not so I decided to use my HEST to make dinner. I minced a clove of garlic in no time flat and used the bottle opener to pop the top off a Mason jar of home made stewed tomatoes. I never would have done this with the 3 but the HEST just motivates me to use it. I can't wait to take it out in the woods. When I get a chance, I will compare the two together although it won't be unbiased. The first pic is about three hours after I opened it. It took about that long for me to put it down.

I hear you. I've been dragging mine all over. GF thinks I'm nuts. I tell her she's jealous.

I love mine, it's about half the weight of what it was when I bought it I've used it so much. the ergo and blade design of this knife are simply unbeatable. Anxiously awaiting his fighting knife...

last time I heard from him he was imbeded with special ops teams in afghanistan using their input to develop a fighting knife. I'm stoked...
