Question for HEST owners and others that have removed the coating from

the entire knife or just the blade. How do you like your knife without the

coating on the blade or knife and is rust any problem now?

My Izula never had coating (it was a special SHOT Show version) and I pocket EDC it. I haven't had any trouble with it at all!

As long as you care for the blade as you normally do for the edge and engravings rust shouldn't be a problem. Just keep it clean and lubed well.

Oh yeah--mine isn't oiled at all. I just keep it clean. :)

I have an old Tak 1 where I removed the coating. never had a problem with the 1095 though it received only minimal care.

I like my HEST much more now that the coating is gone. For one, it's a little smoother and more comfortable when I hold it. It also looks much better too me. The Esee coatings are functional, but they are ugly to me. Satin finish with canvas micarta looks really good. Rust is not a problem at all, It's not like I leave it outside though, I just keep it dry and wipe on a light coating of oil.

How do you guys get the coating off? By hand or machine? An industrial process like sand blasting?
