I was just looking though the October edition of Mens Jounral. On page 116 there it is, an article on Robert Young Pelton and a HEST knife.

Sadly, no mention of RAT Cutlery.

No mention of RAT Cutlery? The dirty rats ...
Wait ...

At whose behest was the article written?

Well, Mens Journal is not exactly RAT Cutlery's venue so it's not a big loss ;). I rarely, if ever, pick it up unless Robert has an interesting article in there. Glad the HEST got some mention though.

Well, isn't that neat. Never read the magazine, but it is pretty cool for a RAT to be in it.

Well if anyone reads it an wants a HEST they'll end up finding out who makes them anyway. :)

Doesn't matter too much if it has Rat Cutlery in it since if they search online for the knife, they find out who makes it instantly. Like R.A.T. said, it isn't their venue. Any publicity is good publicity, even in a magazine that doesn't appeal to their target audience. Might even be better in some ways.

Cool to know the knife was featured in a magazine regardless though.

I agree. Mens Journal is a major magazine and to have the HEST in there is definitely cool!

Yes sir, I was psyched when I saw it! VERY cool. It lists DPXGEAR.COM as the reference. 140.00 as the reference price. Its from the "my gear" section this month with RYP featured.

Here is the text:
"Pelton helped design this seven inch knife, which has a bottle opener, a pry tool, and a hollow handle that works as a secret cache. Oh, and the thick blade is small enough to be palmed for stealthy jabs. "Its good for persuading a stoned Libereian child-soldier that the next present he gives himself wont be your camera.""

Haha! "Its good for persuading a stoned Libereian child-soldier that he's already dead" Another classic RYP quote... What's with Men's Jour-wait, maybe that's Men's Health... What's with them having a new "6-pack abs in 3 weeks" system in every issue? Okay, the number in the "packs" and the time it takes to achieve them varies from month to month, but there's always a "Get Fit Now" type headline on every cover... Just my .02

You asked: At whose behest was the article written?

The magazine called me and said they wanted to profile me on a what kind of gear I use. I write for them but the difference is they don't pay you when they write about you :)) Actually that's how my relationship with Men's Journal began. They had Tim Cahill write a profile on me going to Colombia to meet the FARC and the death squads.

I have a whole section on gear in my book "The World's Most Dangerous Places" but I boiled it down to my top five. I don't get a dime from any of the gear manufacturers I plug except the RAT DPx H•E•S•T and they didn't mention RAT. So I am bad spokesperson :))

If I would have been able to review the copy I would have corrected that since every other manufacturer gets a a plug.

Nice pack by Eagle as well! :)
