Hewing Hatchet with "ATLA" stamp

I'm trying to identify the manufacturer of this hewing hatchet that belonged to my grandfather. I believe it has seen a lot of use because the length from poll to bit seems short proportionally. When I found it, it had been sharpened on the non-bevel side and took quite a bit of filing to bring back to flat. The only marking I can find on it is the faint "ATLA".

That was one of my first thoughts, and I might lightly remove some rust to get a better idea. Searching combinations of Atlas, Atlantic, Atlanta, etc. hewing axes didn't turn up anything for me. I have no idea really.

Just from what I can see it looks like there is a line at the bottom indicating an L, but I'll have to remove some rust and see if there is more to uncover.
