hexagonal screws

The screws are there to hold the knife together.
I thought that response was funny too, but seriously, I think most knifemakers don't want an average Joe tampering with adjustments, screwing the knife up and then complaining about the knife not working properly.

Do you mean the torx screws? One way they are vastly superior to regular philips screws, or even to straight slots, is the fact that the driver wont slip and strip out/round off the heads like phillips can, or slip and scratch the handle. The hexagonal ones for allen wrenches are similar, but I think the torx are superior.

The design and shape of the screw slot is very critical for the torque transfer from the screwdriver to the screw slot to the screw threads. Ever have a "|" screwdriver strip the slot of the screw? Phillips or " + " is better but allen or hexagonal is better. Best design in general use is the Torx or the flower design.

Benchmade uses T0rx screw
Spyderco uses mixes depending on where the knife is made
Emerson uses + or phillips

Because you can exert more torque with a hex and they have the added property that you can't slip or chew up the head like you can with a slotted head of a posidrive/crosshead. Oh, and they look pretty :)
