I just picked up a para 2, my first Spyderco! I should mention I got it from Ebay. It was described as NIB and from a reputable seller (others here recommended in other threads.)

When I first got it, it was smooth as butter, flicked open easy and would drop almost to close when the lock was released. I open and closed it about 150 times. Now its real tight, I can hardly flick it open and when I release the lock the blade will not budge under its own weight.

I put a little oil in the pivot but it did not help. When I open and close the blade 2 handed it feels tighter at certain points. Any one here experience this on their Para 2? I also tried to loosen the torx screws but they would not budge (Loctite?) Thanks in advance for any advise.

You don't need to oil the para 2, if anything it makes it worse. You may need to run it under some water with some soap and clean it out real good and see what happens.

Is it cold where you are? Winter here I find alot of my blades stick , have you checked the internals for lint etc ?

Thanks Scott Ill give it a try.

ARr, it not too cold here. I would not think it has lint in the pivot, I only carried it once and have had it for about 3-4 days. Mostly been in the house flipping it and cutting paper and a few small things. Wish I had a small compressor to blow it out after running it under water.

I know I had to adjust the pivot on mine to my liking. The lock usually starts to bind when the back of the blade reaches the jimping on the handle. I loosen it until it is just under that point where I can tell it is binding. Mine was like 1/4-1/2 turn out and it was good. Can't really explain why it was good then bad.

Clean it with screaming hot water so it dries quicker. You can also get some canned air if it really bothers you.

I just ran it under some hot water with a little dish soap and blew it out with a can of compressed air, but it did not help. Not sure if it is the lock, its not hard to depress but sticks a little. some slight metal to metal pop. The water was pretty hot but still could not break the loctite.

The pivot has a torx on each side one under the clip. Do I need to have 2 torx drivers to adjust the pivot?
Sorry for all the newb questions, all my other knifes are Kershaws with just one side pivot screw.

Its just weird how it would go from great action to being so stiff that quickly.

It also happened to one of my paras as well, but I cleaned it out with water and soap which seemed to help a little, but I kept working the pivot and it seemed to clear up with time.

I looke at the pivot under a 20x loop and noticed 2 brass washers on each side. Im guessing thats normal.
I saw not lint or anything. I ran it under hot water again for about 3 min and still can't budge the pivot screws.

Don't worry too much about the pivot screws. That pivot system doesn't really rely on pivot screw tightness for adjusting how smooth it opens and closes. They should be tightened up pretty good to eliminate blade play. I keep mine about as tight as I can get them and the blade still opens and closes smoothly and is free to swing.

Yep no blade play on mine. Just went from smooth to stiff. I will email Spyderco cs and see if they can straighten me out. I've opened and closed it now 500-600 times and if anything it's getting stiffer.

I have read about this before but don't remember the solution. Maybe try searching some. If you hold something hot on the pivot you can break the loctite. A soldering iron works perfect. A nail held with some vice grips and hold on a stove burner can work too. Good luck.

I actually asked something similar a few months ago.

My Para 2 was being carried daily since I got a few months prior; I was having similar issues. I got a lot of great info, but the one that really worked well was I bought some CLP Break Free and Tuff-glide. I loosened the pivot quite a bit, cleaned it out thoroughly; opened and closed the blade and then blew out all the CLP with my air compressor. I let it sit for 10, 15 minutes and then lightly lubed it up with the Tuff-glide. I would open and close the blade and slowly would tighten the pivot. Once the pivot was tight, I worked the blade a little more; by then it was perfect again.

Hope that may help.

Thanks for the tip. Can I get that stuff anywhere like walmart, hd. Or do I need to find it online? Thanks.

Several places sell it: Walmart may, but any hardware store, Gun shop etc.. should have it. I have seen it at two different Gun shops and at my local home depot. Only reason I purchased mine online was for cost and that I was buying a few other things which was enough that I ended up getting free shipping. I have noticed in the stores that they are a bit more money; I bought the bigger can (I believe the 12oz) for only like 2 bucks more than the avg price I ran into for the 8oz can.

Thanks again to everyone for the help. Even though I've had a rough start with my first Spyderco. Im not worried about it. If I cant sort it out myself I'm sure Spyderco will hook me up. I plan on getting my first CF in the Sage1 soon....Or maybe the GB.
