Sorry I've been gone for so long, everybody. Life has been crazy around the Namaarie house! Good, but insane. You see, I just graduated from High School and have been attending to all the crap surrounding that. There has been so much to do, from my party to all the parties, to the actual ceremony, to everything. As a result, I've been quite unable to check in.

BTW, in my time away from the Cantina, I had an opportunity to give my 18" Bura WWII a good workout. This is my favorite knife, and was quickly the same to all my friends. Took it on a campout that involved clearing brush and burning brush piles. Also, like any good campout, there were also healthy ammounts of destruction. Everybody was amazed that my khuk could do what it could. It took off 2" diameter branches with clean cuts, mangled a hard stump, and passed the test of embedding it in wood and prying it out. The stump died, not the knife. :) Even my big, built, football player monster of a friend couldn't defeat it. This guy has a reputation of being able to destroy anything, whether intentionally or not. I sincerely hope he never buys a HI, because the world would be in grave danger. ;)

Anyhoo, I'm going on a trip tomorrow. Leaving the house at about 3:45 am to go to the carribbean! Man, does that sound good! Yes, I'm taking my Khuk and I'll tell you all about it. Sadly, this means another absence. Only 8 days, though.

Anyways, thought I'd let y'all know that I didn't just fall off the face of the earth. I'm still alive and cuttin', and I'll be back in a little over a week. Take it easy, and be well.

Best wishes,

Nam

Bruise, this is the Nam we're not supposed to confuse with Viet Nam. He's...
THE OTHER NAM

Good to see you, Namaarie!

How quickly they grow, sniff.

Next thing you know he'll be indicted in a stockholder's scandal in some high rise building....

Didn't realize you were so young, Nam. Thanks for the field report and update. Split a coconut for me while you're down there.

I'm back.

Actually, I've been back for a while, but life hasn't been slow. Working six days a week until about 10:00 every night. Pretty brutal, but it pays. Anyways, my job is pretty good.

Kampf: yep, I'm going to college this fall, and am looking forward to it! I sincerely hope that my roomate doesn't mind all the pointy things that I will bring.

Big Bob: Yep, I'm pretty young, but at least I am influenced by such fine people! :D Just remember that I can still post well, regardless of age. I'm pleased to hear you didn't realize how old I am! :) My English teachers would be proud. ;)

Thanks, all, and I'll try to check in as often as I can. Take care.

Nam

Congrats, Nam, my ceremonies are in a week.

Treat yourself to something nice for getting this far in life already. :)

The ol' HI collection can never be too big, eh? ;)

Have a good summer.

Welcome back Nam. I didn't realize you were so young either.;)
That's the nice thing about the Internet, it makes equals of us all that think in the same lines. :D

Age, race, religion, color, everything takes a backseat to communication and the love of sharp pointy things.
We need many more youngens such as you and the others that hang out here!!!! :D

Usually they don't let you bring "weapons" into the dorms, if that's where you're staying. Of course, you could always say that the khukuris are "ethnic artwork" and that if you aren't allowed to have them, it would be discrimination. This tactic might work better if you are actually of Nepali origin.

This year, I'll be staying at a co-op. I noticed their policy states "no firearms" but doesn't specifically prohibit weapons... I think that I'll start out with a couple of small knives and keep bringing in larger ones. Hopefully nobody will notice when I get to the 27" Ang Khola. Or maybe they will just assume that my Bilton grew up.

KM and Nam?

Never underestimate the vigor of the self-appointed righteous. In their passion to show their virtue and hatred for evil, they would call in Homeland Security to save mankind, and stand proudly as your respective academic and legal records were trashed.

Logic does not often enter into zealotry.

Sorry I didn't notice this earlier nam. Congratulations on your graduation! Where did you go on your cruise? My family and I went to the Bahamas on a Carnival Cruise four years ago when I graduated and it was great. So great we did it again when my brother graduated. :) Best of luck with school and as much as it pains me to say it, check the rules of your school's dorms very carefully before you bring along your sharp and pointy things. Most colleges aren't very tolerant of our hobby and can make a whole lot of trouble for you if they think you're a threat. My advice is to make some good friends then find a house to rent. It's usually cheaper than living in the dorms. Just make very sure that you trust them enough to live with them. Best of luck once again. :)

I'm sure you'll be responsible, but consider that you might have "friends" who think a khuk seems like a cool toy and start to chop things down they shouldn't -- like plumbing, bystanders, etc. Or perhaps your knife just disappears.

I learned in high school to not lend my Swiss Army knife when it came back bent. I realized in college that one should never lend a car to someone else. Either a) they've never had a car and have no concept of how to be responsible with it or b) they used to have a car but have proved their irresponsiblity by trashing it.

Nam

Since you're on your way to college, brimming with enthusiasm, just remember, "Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill" and "An open mouth catches both flies and criticism". Lotsa luck.

Nam, keep your khukuris "on the downlow, know what I'm sayyin'?"

Fallingknife's right. Scariest thing is seeing someone who has no idea what they're holding fooling around with one... it will get taken away after the accident. Not for the unwary/unwise to handle, in that much like a firearm.

Exactly. Congrats.

Maybe the Khuk's are vital to your religous practices?

The Kult of the Khuk?
