hey everyone

New member, but have always visited the forums. A little recent history that go me asking this question. I have always like the sharpfinger, but never had a chance to see a pre2004. Well a couple days ago, a coworker asked me to sharpen his really early model sharpfinger and fell in love with it. So I started looking on ebay and found the 15OT and found a new love. I have yet to hold one, but i had to have one, and not a new one. So I started studying the stamps to make sure I bought one I wanted. I read a bunch of Codgers information, and wow does he have A LOT of information.

I just bought one off ebay and while waiting for the time to run down i realized i may have misread the stamp identications and didnt have a lot of time to find out for sure. But it was only $30, but not in great cosmetic condition. I did not buy the knife to look good so its not really an issue for me. And I did not buy the knife for its collector value, I actually do not care at all about the monetary value.

So the stamp is perpendicular to the blade on the right side just in front of the handle scale. it says SCHRADE over N.Y. USA. and on the left side of the blade it just says 15OT. There were not any really good pictures of the stamps so I dont know if there was anyother marking under NY USA or anyother marking on the left side.

My concern is that all the other 15OT that if have seen have the right sided stamp discribed as Codger discribes. Either saying SCHRADE-WALDEN perpendicular just in front of the scale or just SCHRADE near the thumb rest either parallel or angled with the blade. I hope that makes sense. I will try and get a picture posted soon and will definetly take better pictures when i receive it. Did I buy an abused late model? or just a different stamped old Schrade?

Thank yall in advance, Im already looking at a couple other old Schrades before I even get this one.

If your knives are stamped U.S.A. you are about 99.99% OK.
If it is stamped "Schrade" ; welcome to the world of collecting Schrade knives.
Hi from Australia, and I hope you find more Schrade knives in the New Year... Ken

This is my DUCK.

Welcome to the forum Mucduc!

It would be better to see a picture, but from your description it sounds like a legit Schrade U.S.A. knife.

With most of the Schrade USA knives, there were a lot of various stampings. Yours is legit if I had to guess.

A knife with a stamp like you describe

Here is an ended listing that sounds like it has similar stamp or is this the 150T you won? The SCHRADE NY USA stamp usually indicates a post 1973 pre 1980 time frame of production.

thawk,

yes that is the knife. its not in great shape. im actually more worried that someone carved their name in a very ugly fashion on the outside of the sheath. but will see about fixing that later. Its kinda hard to see in the pictures what the stamp actually is. and I have noticed a lot of modern 15OT that just have the name Schrade in the same spot, but doesn't say anything else. That's when I started to think that maybe someone added to the stamp. But the steel has aged like carbon would.

thanks for yalls help. now that I have a little bit of a clue what to look for I will definitely be keeping my eyes out.

That knife is fine (and 100% legit), with plenty of steel left, and so what about the sheath. Both will last a lifetime.

Ha well first my name isn't Brandon ha and that's what is scratched onto it. I don't have a lot of experience with leather but I do have some and I'm a tinkerer so theres a very good chance I will either sand and buff the name out of the leather or just make a new one. Since this is planned to be a working knife I do like to show off a little with what I've done

I've been looking at the 156ot and kinda a fan. The knife I have carried for a few years is a pointy warncliff and I love it so that might be my next purchase

Even though the main tang stamp isn't shown clearly in the auction photos, the blade is obviously carbon steel so there's no way that knife is a modern import; all of the Taylor Brands Old Timer knives are stainless.
That knife in the photos is in rough condition aesthetically, but I can't see any actual flaws or breaks. Should clean up nicely.

I believe the sheath can be greatly improved as well. Ask about it in the Sheaths subforum. I wouldn't sand on the surface until I had gotten input from the leather guys there. Most likely a different process will work better in restoring the surface. All in all you got a decent deal on a good used knife and sheath. Congrats!
