Hey there all, long time lurker, first time poster here! I've learned so much from this site already, I figured it was about time I make an appearance. I'm Tom, I'm an amateur(ish) blade smith from New Brunswick, Canada. I used to apprentice under a local blacksmith, but didn't do much forging during my university years. I made a few damascus blades back in high school, but I was more interested in "knife shaped objects" back then, and didn't have an appreciation for the finer points of knife making. I picked up the hammer again last year and decided I was going to try to learn properly! Hopefully I've come far enough to be able to start contributing to the community :)

Also, I'm always up for a good discussion about anything food or whisky related ;)

Welcome Tom. W&C has a lot of food and booze conversations, but gets kind of crusty at times. The "makers" forums are good for tips and how-to's. You should also check out the custom forum, lots of first class stuff there, much from guys who started here.

Awesome, thanks for the tips! I was also wondering if there's a section somewhere here for general dos and don'ts or forum etiquette, other than DBAA :P Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Welcome aboard T Tom Fogarty , the makers forums are always informative
Shop Talk - BladeSmith Questions and Answers...….Read the stickies at the top of the different forums, some have information on what is allowed, some don't. Conduct yourself the way you'd like to be treated and it will be reciprocated.
