Hey, flashlight people... a quick question?

My mom has a SF G2. I want to put a SF LED drop-in in her flashlight for longer run times. I have a 9P. I will keep this one Xenon because I have replacement lamps for it (both the P90 and the P91). Can I swap the bezels on these two lights so as to make my mother's light LED? Would the nitrolon bezel work with both the P90 and the P91 lamps in the 9P? Thank you. :)

The answer to your question is yes. You can swap out the aluminum head on your 9p to your mom's G2. Using the nitrolon bezel on your 9p won't cause any problems using your P90 or P91 lamps.

Unless you already have a Surefire P60L, I wouldn't bother buying one. There are better options out there for similar or less money. The P60L was a great drop-in for 2006, but today, not so much.

The new Surefire LED module for the G2 and 9P is a complete aluminum head that screws on in place of the bezel. These aren't that expensive, ~$45 on ebay. If you go this route, you won't have to worry about the nitrolon bezel.

Or, there are other options from popular overseas bargain websites that have reasonable repututions. For under $20, you can't go wrong with these.

Good luck!

I would NOT use the Nitrolon head with high output 9P lamp. Have you considered putting the G2 in the car for emergencies and buying a new complete SureFire LED model?

FWIW, I find I use my Fenix lights a lot more then the SureFires I own. I considered a SureFire LED light but, the Fenix models meet my needs and were cheaper. The AA models are a lot cheaper to run and I find I use them more then the CR123 Fenix lights I own.

i think it would melt.

the incan bulbs get really hot.

Meltdown??? ... Not good. I will stick with the aluminum bezels. Thank you.

Yep..... I think the lens would definitely melt. The aluminum bezels have a Pyrex lens IIRC, The others do not. I have bought the aluminum bezels on the auction site for a couple bucks a piece in the past to switch out a couple G2's I have.

Why not just leave the Nitrolon bezel on the G2 and put in a P60L drop-in ? I may have missed something?
The P60L has been discontinued by Surefire so for now they are available and still have good runtime and output compared to ican and will for decades to come. Just because there's new LED's being pumped out every day doesn't mean these are automatically obsolete or unusable.

The nitrolon bezel will NOT melt. The G3 has a nitrolon bezel, and it's spec'd to run a p91. Nitrolon isn't plastic, it's more than that. Besides, the P91 only runs for 20 minutes. So, we're not talking about THAT much heat.

As for the lens, I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure the G3 has a plastic lens, as does the G2. I wouldn't worry about it, though. Surefire will replace a lens that's melted. Or, when it melts, you could replace it with a glass lens for about $3.

You can buy another aluminum bezel on ebay for about $20.

The G3 Nitrolon bezel has a pyrex (glass lens) and the hexagonal anti-roll whereas the G2 has those "Nibs" for the anti-roll and the plastic lens.

Icans throw out heat from the front so you try to stay away from plastic lenses, LEDS generate heat within the drop-in unit itself so at higher output levels you want to go with a aluminum bezel to dissipate the heat. Thats why Surefire switched. People think you can't use a LED in a Nitrolon bezel, not true, just at the higher output levels it is true. I have Malkoff M60L's and LL's in my G2Z's with Gene Malkoff's blessing.

Okay, I just checked on Candlepowerforums, and it looks like I was wrong, the G3 DOES have a glass lens. However, if your G2 was made in 2007 or later, it should also have one. Have you actually checked the lens? Tap it with somthing metal and it should clink.

Regardless, I think there are many different options for you.
