Flatlander, See you are from Indianapolis?? I am from Lafayette!
So you knew LTC Nick Rowe back in '81? We may have had some simliar experiences, just different years. Were you previously with 7th Grp?

I was a SERE Inst. out at Camp Mackall for awhile. I went thru the 2d ever Instructors course given by the Col. It was almost like a Holy experience. I bounced around a bit. I was on Permanent TDY from the 82d thanks to the good Col.;) I noticed you Grad. Purdue in '97. Did you grow up around Laf?
Bob

Yes, I grew up in Lafayette. Served for 6 years in the Army (2/75 RGR ('86-'89)and 1st SFG ('92-'94) and then returned back to Lafayette and went to Purdue. Currently reside in Lafayette where I work for the Lafayette Fire Dept. Was called back/volunteered into active duty a year ago and have been overseas since. Hopefully will be back in Lafayette and fighting fires again soon.

I used to have a SERE lockblade that I bought in 1992, then sold to another member of 1st Group when I got out. Had the rubber grips which I really did not like, if I would of bought the micarta grips proabably would have kept it.

Spent some time roaming around SERE school also for a very brief spell. Was at Bragg '91-'92 going thru the SFQC and Thai language school.

Yes, I really miss Indiana-hopefully will be home in time for hunting season this year!! Want to test out a new crossbow some of my firends bought me and the Groove Master I just ordered.

Yes, I have an idea when I will be finished here and go back to Indiana-but it is op sec.

YOu know, Flatlander, I have been all over the world, and I have to say INdiana is really home. Wide open spaces, COnservative values, 4 seasons, beautiful fall colors, good people, centrally located, good hunting, farms, nice state parks and good shooting ranges, etc...

I remember I used to say,"man, can't wait to get out of INdiana" but after I spent several months in India and then returned to Indiana I realized how nice Indiana was. The only thing I do not like about Indiana is there are no mountains. I loved being stationed at Ft LEwis before and having the cascades as my playground. Now if we could just move the cascades to Indiana-maye that is what heaven is like!!

Understand.
Agree. Been ALL over the world including the Middle East and too much time in Central America. Couldn't wait to get back to Indiana. Some of the greatest times I ever had were in the Sierra Nevada's when I was in the Marines. The closest we have around here are around southern Indiana with those tiny little hills:)
Are you familar with Greenhill outside Laf.? I went handgunning there a while back and got a couple of nice size deer on an old Boy Scout camp that a friend had bought. Nice area.

Hey, as Bob & Tom say, Indiana Rocks!

And I totally agree. I have been all over and it is just .... comfortable here.

I'm from Indiana, too! Lol. I went to Purdue as well, started out as a Chem. Eng. and switched over to History/Asian Studies. I'm from Monticello, which is just north of Lafayette (maybe 1/2 hr. - 45 min. drive...).
Never served, unfortunately. Army didn't want me because of poor eyesight (I used to wear freakin' coke-bottle lenses ) and too many bad allergic reactions to medical drugs. My old man served in the 6th Cavalry back in the '50s, and I always used to love his stories of Germany. Tried to join up, but they turned me down. 'Course this was during the Reagan years...
Hope you're in a safe place, and know that your fellow Indiana residents think the world of you guys. If you're ever back in Lafayette, I'll buy you some cold ones at the Lafayette Brewing Company :D. Later!

Hey now! Let's not start throwing out offers for "free beer" without including some of your Ohio neighbors. ;)

Geez, I'm trying to be here for you guys. . . . I'm worried that Ranger may have a lowered alcohol tolerance from being overseas and I'm willing to "pitch drink" for him. . . .

Yeah, the rumors are true, I'm a giver!!! ;)

It's good to see all of you Indiana guys here, especially my fellow former Purdue students! I graduated from the school of technology in 1991. I try to get back up there for at least one football game a year and to just roam around a bit.

I got to meet flatlander at the last Indy 1500. Maybe I can catch some of you other IN guys next time around. If you ever get down to the southwestern corner of the state, I might know of a few establishments that serve adult beverages.

Ranger, stay safe and thanks for everything you are doing over there.

If I may politely add a note here to say my wife was born in Home Hospital there in Lafayette when her dad (Jim) was at Purdue working on his Chemical Engr'ing degree. Jim was born in Kendallville (just north of Ft Wayne) and still has two sisters living there, they never left.

Cheers,

Hey Ranger,

Sawasdee krab khun snipermormon. Khun pud passa thai di my krab? Pom pud passa thai ng ng pla pla:D Khun me ponriah khun thai chi my?

I worked as an advisor for the Royal Thai MArines down in Songkhla and worked with the Thai Special Forces up north. I was just back in Thailand in October for one week (had three weeks leave) I usually spend about 2-4 weeks a year back there. Gotta eat some spicey THai food!!!

It's been a long time since I was in Thailand (1975). Love the food and the people. How about that Lahb Nua? Great food, simply great! Use to go hunting sparrows with slingshots for dinner. Tried Thai boxing (ouch) and got hepatitis from ice cubes (we think). Been too long for any language memory. I get mixed up between Spanish, Thai & Korean. Never was good at languages anyway. At least you get to go back occasionally. Been back to Korea once since I retired in 93. Wonderful part of the world. Very different but very much the same as "ours". Families and friends are the same where ever you have been.....
