Hey party people,
So I've had almost NO luck finding out any information through my outside sources so here's one last try to get some info in hopes that at least one HOG here knows about old and rare sprits, specifically cognac.
I was gifted this bottle on New Years eve and originally had planned to pop it open around sunrise and enjoy some potentially delicious old Cognac with whatever friends were still awake after the night's festivities. By some miracle, the night ended up really rowdy and as a result, this bottle never got opened. I say miracle because it's come to my attention that this bottle of cognac is OLD and potentially rare! While I do love enjoying fine treats, the reality is that my cognac pallet is nowhere near as developed as it should be and this rare treat would have been wasted on me.
I feel like if this cognac truly is something special then I should either try selling it for a little financial help right now or at least pass it on to someone who will be able to fully appreciate it.
All I have been able to find out so far is that this bottle is most likely pre WWII based on the markings on the bottle and label. It also is miraculously well preserved, considering its age (so much so, that a couple sources said I may have trouble with people thinking it's a counterfeit). This bottle has been sitting vertically (as cognac should) in my parent's house for over 15 years - it was gifted to my father after he had spotted some sneaky cancer in a close family friend, effectively saving his life. My dad gets gifted so much fine alcohol that a lot of it never gets touched, so every new year I end up getting to take something tasty...this bottle was this year's pick and now I think it would be wasted on me. At the very least I want to find out more about it, whether I end up passing it on to someone else or keeping it myself. Here it is:
So having said all this, can any of you HOGS tell me anything about this bottle? Any guesses as to what it may be worth, or even what it is, as far as cognac goes. I even tried getting information through Bonham's and Butterfields and they haven't been able to help me with any meaningful information (and they're supposed to be experts on this stuff!). Are any of you cognac lovers or at least cognac experts?
Any help, questions, offers(?) will be much appreciated...
Thanks!
