I know it's SOOOOO HARD to believe, but I have photographic proof! ;)

This is a damascus fighter I finished last week for the upcoming all forged blade show... The ABS Knife Exposition http://absknifeexpo.com/

Thanks for looking :)

That's just dark grey fuzz on the plunge cut...

That looks every bit as superb as I'd expect from you.

Are you planning to auction it off as the Nick Wheeler knife from
the 2010-2019 decade?

Won't believe it until I hold that knife in my hands (you know...photoshop and all ;) )! Hope to do that in a couple of weeks.

Excellent work as always, Nick. Specs?

I hope to make it to San Antonio just to see if Nick really exists.:D
And hold the knife.
Stan

Thanks guys! I am not sure I believe it myself ;)

Dan, that's not a bad idea! :)

Here 'ya go Nathan :)

Blade length - 9"
Overall - 14-1/4"
Blade Width - 1-11/16" at widest
Blade Thickness - 0.225" at guard and immediately tapers from plunge cut

Nick, does that damascus pattern have a name?

I'm assuming you forge welded/folded etc etc the damascus. Do you sell flat stock, or know where one could find bar stock of that pattern?

Stan, I'm planning on getting there myself if possible. I'll let you know, and we can all meet up.

Great looking knife Nick!
I thought I saw a flaw in photo #4 but it was dust on my computer screen.
It looks like the knife in the photos of your handle jig.

Very nice Nick. Looks like you can still put them out. Like me, you just need to get back into the shop and produce. That is my biggest problem.

meh, pretty average.

Beautiful work Nick   Clean as a whistle ......

I'll bet it felt great to finish.

Nick, I wanted to add that I really like the handle/guard work you've done on this one. The contour line of the guard that leads into the pad on the handle looks sweet !! Very well done !!

I can't wait to see the knife you're making with hamon.
That should be grand !! ;) :)

When I saw the porcine pilot go past my window this morning I thought nothing of it. Then I heard tell of the Pontiff gliding on steel blades in a pretty warm climate and let is pass...but Nick Wheeler finished a knife?!?!?! If I finish one this year too then we'll KNOW that the Apocalypse is nigh!

Looks great Nick, I wish I had half your skill, even if we do have about the same about of time to spend in the shop :)

Sorry I forgot to answer this! :o

It's really just a random pattern made from about 350 layers of 1084 and 15N20. It has sort of a ladder look to it because when I forged the billet I took a bunch of small, tight bites with drawing dies.

I never got into selling damascus... but our very own Deker (poster #18 in this thread) is always busily forging away on billets. I would imagine he'll have a billet with something similar to this one, and his prices are very reasonable for the amount of work that goes into the steel! :)
