One, I dont think they are, but are esee knives tapered heat treated? I recently found out all carbon Tops knives are....I didnt know that.

Two I havent seen a thread on the new izy ll ? what does everybody think about this new one? as fare as difference/improvment and sales

I think you mean "differentially" heat treated?
1) I don't think so though I could be wrong (it may have happened once or twice)
2) Only available for pre order. No one has one yet......YET!!!!

yes that is what i mean. I didnt think they were. I would not want them to be (that's just me i dont like the idea)

ps i like your pic's

Hey there.
#1 Um dunno that one? but the edges are some of the best made! Very hard to dull one. So it kinda makes one think its not just a flat out same RC on the entire blade. I have seen the duracoat taken off some and the temper seems to be the same, all through the blade.
#2 ah dunno that one yet either. I preordered one from TKC and can't wait. But alot of members are lookin forward to the larger handle & slabs. I'm one of em. enjoy edgy

IIRC they are not differentially heat treated.

the izula 2 should ship to dealers sometime in october, or so i have read ;) :D

here is what it says about the HT on the ESEE website

"All ESEE knives feature a proprietary heat treat procedure. Rowen Manufacturing has developed this recipe that allows for hardening the blade completely to 57 Rc. while still maintaining flexibility. Please view this video to see the results of this heat treat process."

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember back in 2007 that the initial RC-3s were advertised with differential heat treat, harder near the blade for increased wear resistance and a bit less hard at the spine to increase toughness. In my comparison of the Ontario RAT-3 and the RC-3 at that time, I seem to remember the differential heat treat as one particular difference.

However, things may be different now.

Yup, the very first blades had a diff. heat treat. Testing showed no change in strength, edge holding or flexability so the simpler process was adopted.
