Bruce Evans' recent post herehttp://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533240 had a profound effect on me. That beautiful piece of work got me in the shop again. Thank You Bruce!

I looked in my book, the last knife I finished was in Sep 05. Holy Moly! You might imagine my consternation thinking about putting steel to the belts again. But man, I had the fever! Started on my "come back" knife and didn't stop till I had it rough ground. Skipped Sunday waffles with my grouchy oldster bunch, who bitched reliably.

And I was pleasantly surprised. I still knew (mostly) what I was doing. (At least to the degree I ever knew what I was doing. ;)) Man that felt good!

But I'm not entirely back yet - I've woken up at 1:00 or 2:00 every morning this week and it's never occurred to me to get into the shop and get to work. Maybe I'll think of that tomorrow...

I hope you folks will wish me luck. I'm really freakin happy. Even blowing black crap outta my nose again!

Glad you are having fun in the shop.

Best of luck to you and let us see a picture of that come back knife.

Take Care
Charles

I know how you feel, last weekend was the first time in a couple of years I've had a chance to forge a blade... had some relearning like denim shirts catch on fire if you brace hot steel against your side :D

Welcome back to knifemaking and like everyone else said, show us that knife. :)

Naturally, I'll show you guys the knife when it's done, but - I'm slow. And the fun part is this is something I haven't done before, it's a stretch so I'll be going slow. But I do need to get as much done before it warms up as I can, because then the weekends will be full time yard work...

Better get crackin!

Will I know what you mean about forgetting what can hurt you. I haven't caught myself on fire or cut off any fingers yet. I'll try to keep it together too!

Cool, Dave! I was happy to see you posting again. Even happier to read that you're doing some knife work.

Me too man, it feels great! Naturally, this morning I slept until the alarm went off, so no grinding in the wee hours. I'm off tomorrow, so I'll make some more steel dust before the ... well, before anyone else gets up.

I'm not sore yet, but my poor arms got tired pushing that big hunk of steel through the bandsaw. No burns or anything yet, but that's probably because I'm still a little over cautious. I'm sure I'll get blisters on my thumbs this weekend!

Get back to it Dave. Sometimes the best thing to do is lay off for a while, get your thoughts together, and start over.

Glad to hear that you are RE-inspired.

I learned to ride a bike when I was around 5 years old..... and even though I haven't ridden a bicycle in 25 years, I'll bet I still could.........

Best wishes and show us your stuff.

Robert

Thanks for the good wishes guys. So far I haven't destroyed anything so that's a plus. Looks like I'm going to shovelling snow in the morning though. Then get a haircut. This all reminds me of a poem my old buddy Marty Campbell wrote:

Got me a haircut
And a clean shirt and tie!
Making like I,
Yes, was indeed!

I always liked that poem and if you knew Marty, so would you. :D I think I'll forgo the tie though.
