I thought that I saw a thread where YOU, (Jerry), has a patent on the front guard hole and rear talon hole.

While I'm not trying to be a squeeler, (pun intended):D, I thought you should see this knife.

Rick Haney is the maker.

Yeah, I'm always checking out that site, lots of cool stuff over there. So, of course when I was there yesterday, that knife jumped out at me. I passed the pic & info along to Jerry. It's a cool little knife, but I suspect the talon hole will have to go.

BTW, Hrk... Very cool of you to get the OSA SHBM back into Dark Nemesis' hands!!

Is it really possible to have a patent on a front and rear talon hole on a blade?

Patent? No. Trademark?? Yes. But to keep the trademark active, the holder must enforce/protect it. One can use another's trademark... However, permission must be obtained. Any lawyer can probably state that much better than I just did, LOL.

I understand the choil on that knife even less then on your average busse.

thats why to me....they seem more like blatant rip offs because the makers in both of those examples seem to have no idea of its purpose.

THose aren't choils...in no way do they assist you in sharpening the entire edge,

and they don't appear large enough to put a finger in either.

Yep, thats what I like about Busse's choils, ease of sharpening. I loathe the noise one gets when a stone contacts the ridge left by the grind. Lights my up like fingernails on a chalk board.:barf:

I get several knife mags and see at least one every few months lately. I've also seen a few start to pop up on the web as well.
I think most of them have no idea thats its trademarked.

Saw this one on a site yesterday.

The last one doesn't seem as bad to me. It looks like the matching holes are there simply to allow the knife to be attached to a pole to make a spear or some such. Not sure if that fall under any trademark and I wonder how long knives have had that arrangement.

The other two examples seem pretty blatant.

Heres another on the forum from the same maker. Like I said I see them a good bit, just look at all the Knife mags and you'll see plenty there over the course of a year. Or look around in other knife/gun forums and you will see some.
This one looks like a GW with a squirrel leg breaker.

Hey,Guys & Jerry.When I made that proto,I was unaware of the trademark.
It was brought to my attention after I sold it.I have since deleted that element from 2 old designs. My intent was holes to possibly lash to.No problem.:D

Yeah, slapped hard because they only pinned the knife scales and used a mosaic pin as decoration!

Thanks for coming here and clearing it up, Rick. As you can see, we Busse fans can be loyal to the point of a flaw. ;)
