Thanks for the 2005 catalog, Joyce! That new Kopa looks great! Does anyone have any info on availability? If each run is limited to 600 pieces, does that mean that they'll only be available directly from Spyderco, or will they also be available from the usual online outlets?

Yep - that Kopa in Cocobola (sp?) looks like a winner! :D

That one caught my eye when I was browsing the catalog too... I'm going to have to snag one. VERY clean lines, and definitely sheeple-friendly.

The second run (600) is black micarta, the third 600 is white evrina (a man made ivory that scrims like ivory). The Evrina is the last of the material. The company stopped making it.

Hi Sal,

Thanks for posting more information. Can I correctly conclude that if the 2nd and 3rd runs are not Cocobolo, then the 1st run is?

Correct Edb. The Cocobolo version is heading out to the collectors late this week or early next week. They are being numbered now.

Hi Ted, anything is possible. We're going to make as many different handles as is possible. Right now we're planning the 4th run. Have not yet picked a material.

Hi Sal,

I would be very interested int the Evrina version.

Could you shed some light about the compositon of the material and if it ages like real ivory (maybe some pics)?

Thanks

Hannes

Hi Hannes.

Evrina was developed in Japan to replace ivory after the laws stopped movement of legal ivory. We made a model earlier under the Moki brand that was scrimmed by Linda Karst. Beautiful work.

The sample is quite nice.

There was only enough evrina left from our other model to make 600 pieces of the Kopa. If you are serious about getting one, you might consider placing an order soon. I'm afraid that the Kopa will be one of those models that will be more difficult to get. Built quality is custom.

Koa might work. We've had difficulty with snakewood cracking with exteme humidity changes.

We're open to suggestions. We'd like to go 18 - 20 variations without repeating the handle material.

sal,
one material I've been eying lately is coral. Nice deep red. Sante Fe Stoneworks has been using it in some of their customs, just not very large pieces.

Hmm, possible inlay materials. . .

Anodized Ti (or Niobium,) amber, jigged bone, brass (bronze might be better.) Tritium inserts would be insane. Be sure to do depleted Uranium to fill out the nuclear theme. . .

i'd like to see something along the lines of the Indigo Royalwood that Buck uses, or any other blue materials. or a lime green. i know, i'm awful.

or (as i beat this dead horse,) Stainless!!!

abe m.

is the kopa going to be available just at spyderco or internet stores as well..i can't wait till it comes out..no micarta for me..coco bolo or that ivory like material..how do i place an advanced order through????????
