Just finished this for my bud. He rewired my barn for 220. Seemed the least I could do.

He has 3 little kids so I wanted to make a kitchen knife that was up to the task. Had some linen micarta and thought that would be OK. Had no idea it looks so nice once it's all polished up!

You can make cool patterns by angling and rounding edges.

Hey man, I think Micarta is great stuff. I've used it on all the kitchen/working knives we use and it comes out of the diswasher just as nice as it went in. Some people look down on it but it's probably my favorite handle material - at least for what I make. This week I did a handle with a lot of contour and inside curves and stuff, using black paper Micarta. Nothing else would have worked as well. (Maybe corian but that stuff's too brittle to use on a working knife. And it's hard to find in basic black. :D )

Nothing wrong with micarta. Nothing at all. 20 years ago, all the tacticals had it. Its still a superb handle material in my book.

Nice knife Steve. I don't use it often, nothing wrong with it though, it's great stuff. You made fit it just great on that blade, nice job.

Linen micarta buffs up great. BTW, how do you knock such nice work out so quickly anyhow?

Roger I think Steve has an understanding family and is willing to forgo a lot of sleep... :D There's no other way to do this much fine work. Makes me feel lazy!

Thanks guys, but I haven't posted many pictures because I haven't finished many!

I took all last week off just to make knives. Finished the steak knife set (which was almost done) and that knife. That's about it. I did grind and harden about 10 other blades tho.

Can't exactly say I'm fast. But I do have a very understanding family!!!!

BTW That handle ground out very fast. I did the Loveless thing on it for the first time. It's really cool. It's in his book and video.

Basically you grind and angle from the bolster to the middle. Then another angle from the butt to the middle.
Then from the top edge to the middle and then the bottom edge to the middle.

It forms a kind of pyramid. Then the slack belt to smooth it all together.

You can make lots of shape changes by varying the angles.
