Melancholy Mutt,
I just saw this old John EK and thought of you.

"Serial number 6Q467; Probably made 1943-1944. Was given the knife by a man in Hamden, CT. but never made it overseas. Served in San Francisco so knife was never carried, sharpened or used. original sheath shows no wear. You can buy used eks for $700-900. This one has only one small spot of rust on it. I have never seen another this fine. "

(EDITED - To remove link and references to internet knife seller's site - I'm not clear if that kind of thing is permitted even though the knife is not mine)

Thomason,
That's an amazing find. It looks to be one of the best specimens I ever seen. Almost every knife made during the that time made it overseas. The serial number indicates that it is a model 6 (the numbers were different back then. today it is called the model 3) and is the 17,467th model 6 to be made.
It's a piece of history and should go quickly...
Thanks for showing it to me...
