I've seen a few postings by newer members asking about knives under $100.

Since I started my knife habit about a year and a half ago, I thought I'd share the good news for other new knife collectors: HANDMADE KNIVES ARE AFFORDABLE! Iis actually possible to purchase something that another human being has ingeniously designed and dripped some sweat on--a unique creation!

I learned about Raker Knives (Ray Kirk), Running Dog Knives (Mike Murphy), John Greco, Dale Reif, Sean Perkins and other makers thanks to BladeForums.

Here is one I just picked up--a small utility/neck knife made by Ray Kirk. http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001323.html

So search BladeForums and the web and find something you like!

And you can get used to the idea of buying "unaffordable knives" in just a little while!

i bought a Woodard Hunter auto at the Blade show for $130.00 which was a steal I think. It is classified as a custom knife i think.

Nice knife, Summerland. And a good topic, IMO. It is amazing to go through the links to custom makers here and see how many affordable custom knives are available.

It is very true that custom knives can be had for less than a hundred dollars. And there are a lot of good makers (even great makers) like Wayne Hendrix and Gen O Denning who make fabulous fixed blades for $100 to $200. In the $200 to $300 range, there are many many great knives to be found. Even some very nice folders.

This is the same price range as many fine production knives like William Henry, and Chris Reeve's Sebenza.

Some of my favorite knives are hand forged differentially tempered tool steel knives made by Tim Morgan. His work is not perfect. But the knives are incredibly good users. And I bought three for $75 to $125 dollars each.

Go to a show, look for new makers who make knives you like. Even if their knives are not 'perfect', they may serve your needs very well. And I really like to have handmade things around. They just seem more Alive.
