Welcome to the forums!

Take a good look at the Spyderco 'Salt' folder models, either Atlantic Salt or Pacific Salt. Spyderco's H1 steel won't rust. Excellent user-reports from users on this forum.

Hope this helps!

Check out the Swedish Mora knives on offer at Ragweed Forge:

--lots to choose from, well-made, and hard to beat on price. Like, around $10 for most. If you like, at that price you can get 2 or 3, against the unlikely event that you break (or the likelier event that you misplace) one. For your purposes I'd look especially at the Frost Clipper in stainless, and the Mora 2000 in stainless; both of these should be basically waterproof and extremely rust-resistant. The reason I single these two out in particular is that they have somewhat-soft and easily-gripped surfaces on the handles, which you will find very useful, I predict, especially since they may be wet, covered with fish slime, etc., when used. The Craftsman variety is also good, though the handles might not be the best fit for small hands (if you have small hands), and the plastic for the Craftsman can be a little slick unless you rough it up with sandpaper--which I find makes it much easier to grip. Cliff Stamp, knife tester par excellence, has a field test of the Mora 2000 here:

. . . and Bladeforums has more discussion here:

Happy kayaking!

The SOG Seal pup elite is very nice it has a nice grippy handle. And has passed a salt water emersion test so it will hold up to the water.

Welcome, I have a Spyderco Salt 1 attached to my PFD at all times. It sees lots of salt water. H1 steel does not rust, just one problem for you to overcome, it does not look like a CS Recon 1:)

Welcome pello,

I used to keep a CRKT Stiff KISS hanging in my shower, (You're not really paranoid if they are out to get you). It didn't rust and they're usually inexpensive enough that if you lose it, you won't cry yourself to sleep.

Salt water is considered to cause more rust than fresh water. For my money I would go with the one of the salts from Spyderco but that’s if you want a folder.
