Hi New, I've been reading some of your posts the last few days and it seems like you're an old hand at this, but your screen name was registered this year. Was wondering what your old screen name was before now.

You remind me a little of the old member mgnew. If you are him, how's the 25" AK holding up that you special ordered when I did mine. If you are not him, have you had the pleasure of using a 25" AK weighing in at around 5 pounds? Thanks,

Heber

no, i'm not him......i was not registered...just a lurker who read a lot of the threads.....i had the pleasure of talking to uncle bill many times when ordering khuks, and i remember rusty as a mod....

i remember a historian fella named berkely, i remember a fella named munk.....kismet was an old regular, as was daniel koster.....fella named terry sisco made sheaths......i remember a lot of the old timers.....

yvsa posted a lot more back in those days.....i think i remember you also......

ah, the good old days......

but, i've never handled a 25" AK.....way too big for my stature.....i'm only 5'9" 145lbs.....

a 25" AK would be bigger than me!!!!

New, thanks for filling me in. :) Uncle Bill used to talk about the lurkers that never posted or registered. Nice to finally meet one of them.

What size Khukuris do you like and what are some of your favorites? I rather liked Godzilla (25" AK I used to have) but prefer stuff in the 24 to 32 once range and 15 to 20 inches. Probably why my 24oz 16.5" WWII and 23oz 20" Sirupati's are my favorite blades. Would love to get an M43 again. Went camping this weekend with my WWII and did a little chopping with it. Did pretty well. But then again I've known that for years. ;)

Thanks again,

Heber

i like khukuris in the 15"-17" range that weigh around 25 ozs.....

AK's, tin chirras, BAS. WW2s...i prefer the thicker blades.......and i really love chiruwa handles.....i've always love slab handle construction...not only in khukuris, but in every type of knife that i own.....

besides HI khuks, i really love busses.....thick beefy, durable blades is what i love.....

the only standard handle khukuri i fell in love with was a 20" kobra.....so darn fast in the hand.....probably the best "feeling" khuk i have ever felt....just felt like an extension of my arm.....

Sounds as though you are a man after most of our hearts. I too like Busse and their derivative companys. Though on HI's I've only used one knife with a slab handle and it was defective. Would love to try some again. Had an M43 with slab handles but never used it before it was sold. The current owner tells that it is awesome.

25 onces seems to be a nice range. I'm 6'5" tall and weigh about 180 pounds. Grew up on a farm and used a 5 pound maul to split wood. So a 5 pound Khukuri is okay for something to me. But really I grab my blades in the 23 to 25 once range the most. My 15" AK is about 28 to 30 onces and the spine is 1/2" Thick. It's only used when I'm going to be limbing a tree or when I need something just masive. One of these campouts I'll bring it and test it's chopping against my 24 once 16.5" WWII should be intersting.

That AK I have sounds like something you may like though. It's tough!! Bought it used from Uncle Bill. It was beat on by the previous owner for something like 5 to 8 years then traded in for something different. The tip was bent, handle cracked in 2 places. Turns out the previous owner used it to remove stumps and to pry and dig. I pounded the tip back in to place, JB welded the cracks, took the edge from blunt to a rather sharp toothy edge and put a brushed finish on it.

My 20" Sirupati Lisa feals like an extention of my arm, so I know how you feel about your Kobra. Light, fast and Agile. I love using it even if sometimes it's not as good at chopping as my WWII because it feels so natural in my hand. :)

If you are in Utah or going to be in the area sometime you should let me know so we can talk and Show Khukuris and other tough blades. :) Done that with a few guys from the forums and it was fun each time.
