Hey old timers? What about your first year?

Hi, all.
I'd like to throw this question out to old timer knife buyers/collectors. Did you go crazy with knife buying the first year you got into it? I've noticed that a lot of us have.
thanks.
Ed

I guess that applies to me....and no I didn't buy as many in my previous years--I am 56--as I have in the last several months since signing on here. The discussions really spur interest and beyond, don't they? I've found out what others with more posts than I have learned, the more the better, the better the more. Happy hunting.

V44, I also read your post about why we collect knives. I, too, have found that my "need" for knives (and corresponding purchases) has grown exponentially since discovering Bladeforums last November/December. 5 months ago, I had never heard of Rekat and William Henry. Now I own one of each. Also, 5 months ago, I thought a $50 knife was expensive. Oh, well...

This is a bery bery bad place if you like knives and aren't a bery bery rich man, there are some bery bery sick people here. They will make you want knives you never heard of made out of stuff you never heard of by people you never knew existed.

And when you start looking for an Oosic handled Pukko you'll know you're hooked!

Paracelsus, dreamer

I buy Less knives every year but manage to spend More. And I never handle Oosic more than I need to.

Two "o"s in Oosic mean you drop the second "u" in Puukko.

My first year wasn't terrible, as I hadn't hooked up with this bunch yet!

It just gets worse and worse...

You are wrong Peristalsis. it’s not a Dream, it’s a Nightmare!
We come to BladeForums with an interest in knives, and end up with an addiction, and we turn to people for help that are a lot sicker than we are. We come here thinking knives are cool, and end up believing that everything we’ve ever done before coming here was waste of time. We start by asking questions like, “What’s the best knife I can buy for $100 or less?” and end up trying to trade our first born for a Sebenza. When you care more about. “Which is better Tip Up or Tip Down carry?” then who is the next President. When your Playboy goes unread but the pages of your Blade magazine are stuck together. When your next knife purchase is more important than your wedding vows. When your child cuts themselves and you check the knife first. When your signature reads, “Will work 4 Knives!” and you mean it, I don’t call it a dream.

I probably would have gone crazy buying knives the year I started my collection ... but my allowance was ten cents a week then.
