Thomas, thank you for using your "status" to encourage people to support this legislation. Knife laws create a lot of confusion as they are usually not specifically directed at regulating knives, but rather are cobbled together by statutes addressing other issues in which knives are tangentially related.
For all you hunters, you can relax. Knives with blades longer than 2 inches are not prohibited, but cannot be carried concealed. The intent was never to prohibit carrying a pocketknife with a greater than 2 inch blade, but the ambiguity in the law has created confusion for which this amendment is aimed at curing.
And yes, I have written the committee to express my support of this amendment and why. The main reason is so that private citizens can be certain of what the law is. This problem has evaded judicial review because the offense is simply not serious enough for someone charged to incur the legal costs involved in contesting it. Thankfully, we have been able to persuade our legislature to do something about it, so that no one else gets convicted on what I consider an erroneous interpretation of the law.
