I wondered what you thought about the mirror finish on these khuks that are heading out to Kuwait. I've considered sandblasting the blades (not the edge) and applying a matte finish so they don't reflect. OTOH, I hate to ruin their looks. What do you think?

Stephen, I wouldn't go to all the trouble of sandblasting khuk blades. You might want to degrease 'em good and rub 'em with slices of lemon until they turn a nice bluish grey. It helps cut down shine and adds a small degree of rust protection. Me, I just keep 'em clean and oiled, and let 'em go "satin" from fine scratches as a natural result of use. They'll get all the sandblasting they need in the desert.

Oh, sandblasting is no problem, but I really was just concerned about reflections. Maybe it isn't anything to be concerned about. Sarge, I wonder if I could swipe your blurb sheet on the khuks to send? Since you've had them in 'stan, you might have something helpful on their care that I'd miss.

I can't wait to get this stuff going, and thanks again to you guys who've sent boxes of books and other useful things!

Sarge, what's the shipping costs to an APO address if any? Will you be able to receive large triangular packages there?;)
Please send it to me when you're as settled as possible.

Yvsa, I don't know what the difference in shipping to an APO costs, but it shouldn't be much more, if any, than domestic rates. Mail call's going to be somewhat challenging over there,'cause I expect we'll be on the move a lot. It's going to be a lot different than operating out of a fixed site like we were doing in Afghanistan. An adventurer's dream, lots of cross country convoys, lots of hasty overnight bivouacs. All in some very rugged and hostile terrain, ranging from snow capped mountains to scorching deserts. Sigh, I was too old for this crap last go around, but I can't help but be excited. If nothing else, I can teach the youngsters a thing or two about "roughing it". ;)

Wrapped the tip of my scabbard and the handle of my Chitlangi with bat tape to both protect those areas and STOP THAT REFLECTION. Only damn thing really wrong with these knives for combat, all that gold flash. (Doesn't hurt the grip at all, either. :) )
