When I tapped on the edge of this it sounded a little too tinny. Chopped a lot of pine and maple with it but just this little bit of heartwood on this red oak broke it.

I hope Yangdu is getting more 16's made up because this is a great khuk. Just too brittle. The broken area looks bubbly and carbonized almost.

This one is going back and I really am bummed cause it's a great model!

that really does look like a defect IN the metal, not the tempering or the making.

metal inclusions are really tough to beat!

Yangdu will definitely take care of you when she gets back. I'd send you one if I had any, but I don't have any of the bonecutters with me.

I think it's a little of both Bladite. If you tap on the blade with your fingernail it has sort of a tinny sound.

That is a big chip HD. Hopefully Yangdu will be able to bring up these issues while she is at the shop.

Whoaa! That's freaky. Looks like a piece of broken cast iron.

That's EXACTLY what it looks like. I know this is forged cause you can see the hammer marks on the blade but the grain looks just like something made out of cast iron looks like.

HD those are nasty! That was one sweet looking Khukuri, sorry to see it fail. Yangdu will take care of you when she gets back (as you already know). I'm hoping that someone can figure out what the problem was so it doesn't happen again.

You're just too much of a brute, HD! The power of your stroke superheated the metal before it contacted the wood, and destroyed the temper.

User error! :p

Holy Moly Jim! How'd you get that fantastic finish on that blade? :)

My M43s are so shiny I'm not sure they'll ever take a patina. That looks like it's been a long-term companion.

Cut a bunch of stuff and didn't wipe it off before I put in back in the sheath.

Oh, is that all? I started doing that this morning. I hope to have some "character" like that soon enough. ;)

Thanks,

B

Sorry for the blade failure, Sgt. Khadka will do his best to correct this problem.
I will send you the replacement BC khukruis as soon as I can.

Yangdu is going over the extra mile. She has told me many times she cannot insure Sgt's work the way she does HI.

This is a good leaf from the Book of Life; Sgt's blades are known and highly valued by his fans. He takes a lot of care in each blade, and this has been commented on and appreciated. But here is a blade failure.

Nothing is 100%. So many times I hear in disapointment (not here) that something should have been done, it shouldn't have happened. Something was; he made the best knife he knew how.

Glad it's all coming together with Yangdu's help.
My own Sgt bonecutter is still chopping.
