Just curious cause I just got back from WV. If you are going somewhere to get away do you really want it to work all the time?;):D

Anyway, not sure if I want one but I know the wife would love it:rolleyes::D

I have a Globalstar and an Iridium. If you want one that doesn't work all the time, get the Globalstar. :D

The Iridium works awesome, but is not as clear. Globalstar is near cell phone quality clarity, but most of the time you get "Globalstar......looking for service".

If you slice open an artery with one of your blades, definitely reach for the Iridium.:D

first reach for the quickclot, then the iridium:D

yes it works good if you follow their schedule of the sats passing by. they are to have their full constellation up by this fall. sats orbit and are not in a geosynchronous orbit, so if you are in a deep canyon you will get a clear shot about every 15 minutes for 15 minutes.
i like my globalstar and i have had it for years but you have to understand the sysytem.

both phones have their problems as noted above. at my place in the back country the people who have had both end up keeping the globalstar.

i use this tool

http://calltimes.globalstarusa.com/low_bandwidth/

and always hook on when i want and have a good 15 minute call window.

for cut off legs and small things like that a carry a personal locater beacon registered with noaa and a fifth of whiskey.

Iridium all the way...

Standing on top of a bunker in southern Afghanistan talking to my wife when the rockets started coming in...

"Honey I need to call you back okay?"

:D

and that's another good point, i usually stay in my bunker because when i'm on top of it i get shot at.

neither phones will work unless you have a clear view of the southern sky. in bunkers, caves or deep canyons like in idaho they suck! both suck period!

also all sats or most have been moved south to service our war and service our men standing on bunkers :D

oh wait, i understand it now YOU need the phone so she can call YOU, ok, well send her here and i'll send you the phone and throw in a solid bolt mistress or sumthing.... we have a great phone connection here, good view of the sky....

I've tried that website, unfortunately it wouldn't let me get the info for a week or so ahead of time, unless that's changed now.
I don't need a Sat phone if I have an internet connection. :D

They've been telling me every year that they plan to launch new satellites from Russia. No rockets so far. :grumpy:

Maybe the Globalstar works better down south. A friend was talking on my Iridium at the table in a cabin and I was sitting in the middle of a 10x8 mile lake in a boat trying to get a signal locked. Mine's also the old black one, resembles the brick phones of years ago, maybe they're not as good.

A couple of years ago I phoned Globalstar and gave them a rant. I'm now on a "no monthly fee" and it's $0.55/minute only when I use it. That's the only reason it's still activated, as it costs me nothing. Guess I got the " Irate Customer Plan." :)
