Hey Solvang attendies we need a report!

My take. The Solvang Show is probably the nicest show every year. Last year I took issue with the behavior of people during the Boguszewski feeding frenzy. This was handled by way of an auction this year, worked out fine!

The doors opened for three day ticket holders at 11 AM. I went to the Jess Horn table to put my name in his lottery. I was told the drawing would be at 11:15 AM, 15 minutes later! Next I was off to Steve Johnson to join the lottery, 11:30 AM drawing. So two of the most sought after makers were having drawings before the show officially opened at 12 noon!

There was a Boguszewski lottery at 1 PM and Ernie at 3 PM. These lotteries really help the average guy stand a chance. In years to come I'm sure there will be more.

This is a makers show. I hung out with Sawby, Osborne and Kious on Thursday and got to see their knives. They all sold out by 11:30 AM Friday. Amazing! Keep in mind, Dave asks the makers to limit sales to one knife per buyer for the first hour!

There is a problem for buyers and even though Dave Harvey allows an early entry for 3 day tickets, there just are not enough knives to go around. Great for makers, not for collectors. Collectors complained, dealers complained, but there are just not enough high quality knives.

Special knives included Fuegen, Hancock, a new maker named Julie Warenski, Velarde, Ankrom. Dennis Friedly won best of show for an amazing Bowie. Ron Newton sold out early, had the pleasure of his company for the Sat. nite barbeque, lot of fun.

Bob Lum was swamped by buyers early on. His work is just so nice! I got to see or handle most of the knives and I had to add to an existing order. Anyone nicer than Bob?

Ricardo Velarde is a good friend and makes some amazing integrals. I ordered two Chute knives, a full integral and a half integral. Handle material to be determined.

STeve, please read this: My wife and I each got drawn in the Emerson lottery, second time that's happened. This is unbelievable! I also got drawn in the Horn and Bogie lottery, so I had a good show.

Don't chastise me but I have no pictures! I'm depending on Ralph Merlino to come through. I hope Ralph shares a real nice Emerson Viper 3 he got in the lottery.

This show was crowded both Friday and Saturday which speaks well for the market for custom knives. Also, speaks volumes for the fact that Dave puts on a great show each year.

Hope I didn't bore you.

Great report Win. It's always good to hear of a show doing so well, I've often heard of Solvang being one of the better shows of the year. Thanks for the details.

Actually, amazing isn't quite the word I would use. I think they should've at least waited until the show opened.

Thanks Win

At last years ECCKS Steve had his drawing about 10 minutes after preview doors opened..he only offers a limited number of slips for the lottery once they are all signed he starts pulling names...

Did you see the Texas Sportsman that Ron Newton was showing;)

The show was "open," you just had to buy a three-day pass to get in.

I thought we'd get a few more reports from one of the years top shows..anybody?
