Hey there, my friends!
This is a check in to let those who are interested in what's coming up in the parallel universe that seems to be Loriendesign- a special place where only I can go, and which I always seem to come back from dusty, tired and sore. But always inspired!
There is now a flexible shaft rotary tool in my shop, and I'm super excited to start learning how to use it in ways that expand the limitations I face in my shop, and to improve on the quality and variability of my work. It's a pretty cheap tool, and will be replacing the handheld Dremel I bought for myself 40 years ago, lol! Got some carbide burrs on the way, and lots of points and things for various finishing tasks.
The 2024 Order Sheet is in the rearview, everyone got their knife and I haven't heard any complaints, so that's pretty sick. I'm working on a Cormorant right now and I'm almost done. It's the last knife I have written down with an approximate delivery date, and although there are a couple others on the bench that are spoken for, once this guy's done I'm going to take a break!
4 months ago, I was hired by a new bike shop in town. As a bicycle mechanic since the mid 90s, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to lean on the trade I worked so long to master- and bring home a regular pay cheque! And, I gotta tell you- having worked as a knife maker and designer full time for the past 2.5 years, I needed a real job just for a break! Seriously though, this job means I can slow down, tool up and work on my quality. More $ I can invest in my work shop, and my education.
So, July is going to be a holiday from knife making for me. I have a bunch of designs I'm working through- especially a folder design I'm amped on- and I want to get going on getting a batch of CPK Basic 5 sheaths into production.
There is a super cool knife coming down the pipe here as well! It's a collaboration that Stuart Branson and I did, and all I have left to do and make a belt attachment for the sheath. So keep your eye out, I'll be posting up a bunch of pics and stuff soon. Also, that knife will go for sale, (offered first to my mailing list, and then here on BF is no one claims it) and Stu and I will split the take. It's a cool thing, working together and benefiting together like that. Stuart's a great guy and an amazing artist. We're talking about going to Blade together next year, which would be awesome!
In October, my good friends Nathan and Jo of Carothers Performance Knives will be hosting a get together for their community. I'ma fly to North Carolina to hang with them, have a good time, and if I get some knives made between August and October, I'll be bringing them with me for sale!
Not much more to add at this point, but if I think of anything, I'll jot it down.
Cheers!
