Howdy! I can't PM, so I thought I'd just ask straight out. I know you've mentioned there are plans to do a collaboration with Kershaw and Tim Galyean on the Junkyard Dawg, and just wondered if you had any details about this that you'd care to fill us in on. Thanks!

what???? there's one????!!!

sheesh....how did I miss this one?? anyone with info?

Spyken, I should have done a search really, but I was hoping to worm more info outta him. The JYD from Kershaw is being unveiled at Blade in about 2 weeks. Can someone PLEASE get some pics of the Kershaw booth???

Hi all, as I have mentioned in the past, we are doing 2 variations of Tim's JYD flipper.

The smaller one will have a blade length of 3", made of Sandvik 13C26. It will be a frame lock (410 stainless, .100" thick), and will have the "Bomber" pattern machined into the front scale. U.S.A made right here in Tualatin Oregon.

The larger version will have a blade length of 3 5/8" (Sandvik 13C26), and will incorporate a liner lock (.055" thick) wrapped with charcoal G-10 scales (w/Bomber pattern). Manufactured in Tualatin Oregon, U.S.A.

The flipper action will be effortless, and delivery is hopeful for the fall of 06.

Did I miss anything?

Images, oh yea, images, umm...none quite yet, sorry. I will try to post some prior to Blade.

Spyderjon, the image you see is a custom JYD.

Well, hot damn! A few questions:

Is 410 stainless similar to 420J in use?

Does the G10 model have the bomber pattern on both sides?

It WON'T have any sort of assisted opening right?

Will there be a high end run with Ti scales?

Will these be a part of the regular Kershaw line-up or a special thing?

Thanks! Sounds like there are a couple of things that'll be on my radar from Kershaw this year. You guys really have taken over CRKT's place as the innovative company on the rise, and I'm happy to see someone doing it!!!
Say, 13C26 is about equivalent to AUS8 right? or am I thinking of another steel? Its not a deal breaker, just a question. I'm so excited I could splutz!

Looks lovely...but why Sandvik? I think companies should go for CPM154V at least...

my guess would be that the sandvik can be stamped and would be easier (and cheaper) to produce??

The 410 stainless is not a blade steel, but makes for a nice handle material when constructing frame locks. 420J2 is a low end blade steel.

The G-10 will have the bomber pattern on both sides.

These will be manual flippers, they will not be assisted openers.

Probably a little early to say at this time, but I can see a high end Ti version (like Tim's customs) being very tempting.

Both patterns will be brought on as regular Kershaw items.

We really like 13C26, and have had positive responses from our customers in regards to performance with this steel. You will most certainly see more Sandvik projects from us. A Sandvik search on these forums should give you all more insight.

Spyken, I believe most on this board do like their real exotic steels (as do I), but in using them, retail pricing starts to soar, and a manufacturers volume is compromised. Sad reality. It wouldn't surprise me if we produced a high end JYD (for folks like yourself), if that makes you feel any better.

Thanks Thomas. I know some companies use 420J as a blade material (which I won't buy), but more companies use 420J- as I understand it anyways- as a liner material. I was just looking to see if 410 and 420J work similarly in THAT capacity. My guess was/is that they do, but just thought I'd ask a person with a direct line to the info!

I'm looking forward to the high-end version of the JYD (which I'd imagine will happen if the model sells well). The thing I'm MOST excited about, though, is the lack of assisted opening on it. I just don't feel comfortable carrying AO knives where I live, so a nice manual flipper will be very welcome!

Would you guys be using PB washers or some form of teflon/nylon/nylatron? I'm quite excited now!!!

Sorry for the confusion, we do like using 410 rather than the 420J, as it eliminates corrosion concerns.

We will incorperate nylon washers on the JYD's.

I'm quite excited now!!!
By the sounds of it, you were earlier in this thread as well.;)

Thomas W,

Great work! Maybe the new Kershaw JYD flipper will take the place of my trusty but beaten up old Camillus Cuda as an EDC...

Could you tell me how thick is the blade and how hard will you run the 13C26? HRC 59-60 would be nice, that steel can take it.

Does anyone know the difference between Sandvic's 12C26 and 13C26? I hope I got the #'s right.
