... that guy that got married to someone on the forums? You know, the one we were all really nice to and gave the most awesomest wedding cake slicer ever to?

Yeah, all we asked was that he post some pix of it, and the bastid up and ditched us for a life of connubial, rather than khukurial bliss.

Whassupwidat!?!

Sorry.

It all seems kinda silly now to sit down and try to explain, but here is the mercifully short version:

When Kathy and I got married I moved to WV. I had difficulty finding any employment at first, and I was painfully under-employed for about a year even after I did find work. After that, I was merely under-employed for the next year and a half. Recently, however, I have snagged one of the few brass ring jobs available in this gorgeous but economically depressed State. Now, we were never destitute by any means. Kathy makes very good money- for a teacher- but for a long while certain things were a little out of reach for us. Things like a computer or a decent camera or a BF subscription, for example. ;) We are doing better now, and in fact we hope to be buying a house in the next year or two.

Anyway, I've been poking around some because I really miss you guys. I wasn't going to post until I had some pix of the fabled and fabulous Knuptial Knife ready to include. Those are not ready because the knife has been in a storage environment that has not been kind to it. No damage, but it'll need some cleaning up to be as beautiful as it was when we first received it from the good folk here at HI. :) The only reason I'm posting now without having pictures to share, is because Hollowdweller busted me lurking over in W&SS and called me out.:o:):D I'm really glad he did.

Like I said, we miss you guys.

Welcome back, MacHete!:D:thumbup: Lots of things have changed since you were around last, but it's still the same ol' Cantina atmosphere. Pull up your old bar stool and have a sit.:)

Ha! Where you living in WV? Near me? I work in Charleston.

Now you know about the sacrifice we all must make to live here.

I fried donuts with 2 college degrees for a year before I found a decent job.

Humble and heartfelt thanks, guys. :)

HD- If you're still around Culloden, then yes. We're in Saint Albans and I work in Buffalo. Unfortunately, I am now, and probably will be forever on night shift.

Of course, the upside of that is the opportunity to pounce on DOTDs while those who have real schedules are at work. ;)

Again, it's good to be home. I promise to get the Knuptial Knife spiffed up and posted ASAP.

Welcome back, Mac. Glad to hear that things are looking up for you.

Welcome back, Mac :)

(I think Jake cut his cake with a YCS, too, IIRC).

Mike

You are quite correct, sir:D
Bought it just for said occasion, sharpened by Dan Koster....lucky the thing didn't go through the table. Some of the guests were taken aback...but I didn't invite them, so what do I care:D

MacHete?

I'm thinking you haven't been here since Uncle Bill and Rusty died? And our pal Bri in Chi who was at the khonvention with us also died recently.:(

I did know about Uncle Bill and Rusty, but I am also very sad to learn about Bri. Wow. Apparently I'm not alone in having no idea that he was ill. As you mentioned, I only met him once at the Khon, but he (and everyone else, really) impressed the heck out of me.

But, I guess that's all the more reason to start hanging around again. I don't want to miss any more quality time with the quality people here.

It occurs to me that this is more of a "Cantina" thread than an HI thread, so if the powers that be feel it should be shunted off, please feel free. I'm afraid the "knife content" may still be a weekend or two away, and by then we might just need a new thread.

I left all my power tools back in KY with my brother. There simply is no room to keep, much less use them in our tiny little domocile. Consequently, I am restoring the Knuptial Knife with a Dremel. It makes for very slow, but careful work.

Once again, it's great having you back, Mac:)

I'll move this thread over to the Cantina for now. I'm really looking forward to seeing the restored Knup Knife;)

Welcome back! :) Nice to see you posting again.

how about a pic of that bowie strapped to her thigh with the garter? or did you throw that into the crowd? (the garter, not the bowie)

Ya know, any garter sturdy enough to hold that thing on her leg would probably also pinch it off!

Neither our wedding nor the reception were very thoroughly photodocumented. The wedding photos were part of our "package" we arranged when we ran off to Gatlinburg, and they were pretty crappy. The reception photos were taken by some friends and family about a month later, and I'm not sure who currently has custody of them. (Another reason I should call my mother.) I have been expressly forbidden to post any pix of Kathy. (You know how women are. ) However, we do have pictures of the Knup Knife in action- I just have to find them, scan them and post them. I'll try to have them ready when I also have the Knup Knife ready for it's close-up, and I'll post them all together.

Thanks for the welcome back, guys. I'm still feelin' it, so I hope you're not tired of hearing me say it- It's good to be back! :D
