I'm pretty sure Yvsa was the one that got the Foxy's Folly that Kumar "screwed the pooch" on pretty bad. Well sir, somebody has gotten dead in that young man's behind, 'cause I just recieved a pretty amazing khuk in the mail with Kumar's mark and initials. It's the most exquisite 12" Ang Khola I've ever laid eyes on. The blade is perfectly forged, 10/10 plus, and the handle fits my hand snug, solid, and comfortable. But those aren't the best parts, check this out, the dang edge bevels are convex. I don't mean "almost" convex, I mean Shop 2 convex. Not only that, Kumar actually sharpened the darn thing. I gave it a few strokes with one of my homemade "reti" chakmas, and that rascal was shaving hair off my arm lickety split. It was a "blem" because of some grain lines, bwaaa, pass the Bondini and 2000 grit. I bought it with every intention of giving the durn thing away. Took me ten whole seconds of handling it to squash that thought. No worries, I'll keep my eyes peeled and snag something else. Y'all excuse me while I go wail on some well seasoned Spanish oak to see if this bad boy knows it's business. There may be hope for them knuckleheads at Bir Ghorka yet Yvsa.

:D :D :D :D A good cussin out seems to always wake up the lazy bastards!!!! It always did in the shops I worked in.:D

What gets me is that they turned out beautiful convexed edges with the old hand powered grinders that took an apprentice or shop helper to pull back and forth on a bicycle chain.
You know that was labor intensive!!!!
Now they have an electric powered grinder that they could do the same thing with, proof is in your new 12" AK, and they persist in making a second or third class tool instead of the top notch world class kukris they used to turn out!!!!
It just chaps my ass!!!! :grumpy:

Oh hush Duck, you ain't fooling nobody.

Gents, this one's the real deal! I just went medieval on it's a$$ and it was loving every minut of it. First a nice log of Spanish oak, cross grain, end grain, with the grain, didn't matter, that wood is hard as a brick, but the AK was chomping like a shark in a feeding frenzy. Checked the edge, still sharp. Okay, let's see if this blade's going to snap off on me. First I pounded that log with the spine of the little AK so many times I pounded a dadgum notch in the durn thing. Then I turned the khuk sideways and slapped that hard oak with the flat of the blade enough times on both sides that my hand went numb from the impacts. Nothing, absolutely zero damage. Well dadgum, what's it going to take to get this knife's attention? Hmmm, didn't have any big bones lying around to chop, but I sure as heck had some odd bits of deer antler left over from making knife handles. All right, get ready to yell bull$hi+ and call me a liar. That little monster chopped right through a 1" diameter piece of whitetail deer antler (fellers, don't try such foolishness without proper eye protection) in about five or six good licks. Not only was the edge not deformed, no sir, not one little bit, but I was able to restore it with nothing more than my chakma to a point where it's just starting to shave hair. Holy cow, I repeat HOLY COW!!

Bless Kumar's heart, when the boy pays attention he's dayumed sure got the stuff. This one here's a keeper, and that's just what I'm going to do, and old Ducky poo can just go ahead on and barf himself silly.

Sarge, they've all got the "stuff" when they pay attention!!!!:D

And you know Quackipuss loves that little 12" village AK you sent him. I'll bet he sleeps with it, and unsheathed at that!!!! There's nothing he's gonna lose should it get away from him, after all Quackipuss is just another "Old" man.:D HEE!!!!

Yvsa - I'm wondering what would happen if we sent them a belt grinder...?!?

Why should we send them a belt grinder when they have the skill to manufacture convex edges with what they have? A belt grinder would just make them lazier, but we might get convex edges out of Birghorka again.
Problem is that if we sent them a belt grinder we would probably have to furnish them with belts as I have no idea if they're readily available in Nepal.
They probably don't know what a belt grinder is. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. We got convex edges with the old hand powered grinders, the question is, "Why can't we get them now?" but we've already established that.:(

Well my conscience is a little clearer this morning about hanging on to this little gem by Kumar. "Issued" out one of my other 12" AKs to an "ops" guy that's a newbie to the squadron. He didn't get a chance to go on any of our earlier "trips", but he's training hard and chomping at the bit wanting to do his part. Time is short, and he'll be rolling out over there pretty quick, but he's got some pretty good teachers that are going to make sure he's ready to get the job done. Count on it.;)
