Harbor freight has a mill-drill for sale (manager's special) for $169. They don't have it online anymore, but it is like this one from Grizzly: http://www.grizzly.com/products/g0517 It doesn't come with the stand or anything either. I already have the HF mini mill, but damn that's a good price. Thoughts?

Michael,

I'm not usually a mill/drill fan, but that seems like it would be a bit more heavy duty than the mini mill, although still kinda light weight in the big picture. For $169.00 it looks like a steal if the Grizzly one is $600.00. Even if you ever got a bigger mill, that should make a nice drill press.

I am friends with the Dan, the guy who posted the question on knife network. Afew days later while hanging out at his shop, we found and installed the drawbar that he had stuck in a drawer and forgot about. This solved the problem he was having. So the mill does have a drawbar and works great. I only wish our harbor freight had that kind of deal on those so I could have one.

If you have any more questions about the mill I'm sure Dan would be happy to answer what he can, he's a great guy and is usually more than happy to help a fellow knifemaker. His e-mail address is dan@theknifemaker.com.

That's funny! Thanks for that info. Now how come he never came back on that thread and said, "DOH!"? ;)

I'm glad he got it fixed. "This case is closed, King!" Any of you other old farts remember that line?

Hi Michael, thanks for posting this! I was wanting a heavy duty drill press and a little larger mill than my micro mill and this one looks like it'll fit the bill until I can get a full size knee mill one day. :)

I went to the local HF and they had it listed on sale for $229 today - last one in stock. I was ready to leave, as I didn't need it that bad, but Kathryn encouraged me to ask the manager about it. Well, in the end, he ended up selling me the Mill/Drill combo for $130 and the stand for another $20. It was missing the chuck, but I've got an extra keyless chuck ready to go on it! I guess they are really looking to get rid of these and make space for something new. So, thanks Michael, I got a really good deal on a nice drill press I can use for milling because of your post!

:)

hf is a real crap shoot-bougt a drill press used it once, tried again a few months latter and the motor just went poof in a ball of smoke-

have a cement mixer thats done 3million tons and still wont die, same for a
1" hammerdrill ,vibrated most of the crews out and it still just keeps going, ran it so hot you couldnt touch it for a hour, i have always warmed it up like the owners guide says and added fresh grease before use-
