HG55 price discrepancy?

Watching Busse knives sell on Ebay, I've noticed that the HG55's seem to be bringing lower prices than most other Busse's, $270-315... any thoughts as to why this might be?

I think it's a great design, love mine (muddy/black G10)

The scallop bevelled blade version was not liked by everyone .... the LE's though were a much better looking option.

Well the economy sucks and so does that auction site. And like PeterPHWS says, not everyone likes the CBT, although there were some show specials where they did make some without the CBT, but harder to get. It's also more of a fighter knife and the style is not for everyone...

The design didn't really appeal to me so I didn't buy one.

But in general, I can say that I've sold knives "cheap" in the past simply because I needed the money FAST... usually because I found another toy I wanted more.

eBay auctions are funny things. Sometimes a Bussekin knife will slip through a a relatively low price, and then there are the times that the bids just go crazy high.

I've noticed the same thing. I think the same can be said about just about any category on there. Sometimes guys get in a bidding war and their competitiveness just takes over. That happened to me once, and it led to a new policy on my part. I no longer drink and bid. ;)

the knife itself, to me, is too much like a fighter mated with a big steak knife. odd I think.

I imagine if I try hard enough I can think of a use for one, but it's way behind other blades.

I thought the same thing at Blade 09... they offered a SMOKING deal on HG55s if you bought more than one of them, and I just couldn't think of a reason to get them, except maybe to have a matching steak knife set :p

I agree, a set of LEs would make a killer (albeit obnoxious) steak knife set.

The HG55 strikes me as a classic fighting design, basically a beefed-up Bowie knife: upswept clip point for thrusting, forward-canted blade with a bit of a belly for slashing...

not the least bit utilitarian, as most Busses are---you wouldn't want to pry open any doors with it---but for a CQB knife carried for the purpose of personal defense, it would seem to be ideal... maybe it could be a bit thinner/lighter... but it seems all Busses are built for strength...

I don't particularly like the look of the 'corrugated bevels'; apparently Busse designed them in to make the blade lighter without much decrease in strength...

or am I missing something?

I thought they honestly stunk until I picked on up in Easton, PA.

I own a BP/Satin one now. That handle is awesome. So simple in design, but great feel. It's a large skinner/fighter. Sorta like a Randall #4 in nature. I like it. I won't use it for much, but with this many knives. . . LOL

Oh, and I got mine below MSRP. So even the LE-styled ones go for cheaper than usual.

Yeah, thats the thing with knives. I've bought knives I thought I'd love but didn't. Once you handle them, you'll know whether it is for you or not. One size rarely fits all.

One of the great things about Busse's is that you can always throw it back in the trough if it doesn't work out for you... someone else will love it.

Yes.

I currently own 3 Busses: a BBSH Steel Heart, a Meaner Street, and an HG55.

They have very different handles; but they all feel great in my hand. That is one of the strong points of Busse knives, IMHO: very ergonomic and comfortable handle designs.
