HG55 vs Urban Grudge? What's the difference

Saturday morning nerd research.

HG55, particularly the early non CBT models... More specifically the custom shop ones...

And early? (2011) Urban Grudge models, the custom shop ones...

Appear to use the same blade stock and the only difference I can see is a slight difference in blade shape as it applies to the top edge sweeps up on the HG55s and is straight on the urban Grudge, same length, width, and height, etc. Even the handles are the same.

I've looked, I've read, I've been at this for a couple of weeks. Can't find an "Introduction" post on the urban Grudge...

Anyone have or have had both, can you confirm or deny this?

Got pics? Help me find some more info? I have found a bunch of old info on the HG55s, including screen shot pics of old forum posts where Bossman talks about designing the HG55 in 1982 (holyshitballs, I was 5 😳) with pictures of the first cutout of an HG55 in aluminum sheet...

Can't find similar info on the urban Grudge. I have a couple custom shop HG55s coming as well as at least one Urban Grudge, all from the same time period (2011ish) and would love any info you may have

⚔️ Thanks gents

I had the early HG55 w/o the bomb proof tip. Yo, I can see why they needed the bomb proof tip, because these things blew up. Also had meltdown and wierd dual thumb grooves i dont see on the grudge.

Just noticed you were asking about early customs, never seen those.

The "original" Urban Grudge is a HG-55 fighter variant. It was offered through a Ganza once (before Custom Shop one-offs) (see pix), & not a production model. Some have longer swedges than others 🤔😉

Man those varying swedges were really fun for the sheath guy ;)

Had no idea until I had to re-make 4 or 5 sheaths LOL

I really like the OG UG

Well now I feel like a blind piggie. I don't have either of these knives sadly, but I just noticed that the UG has some curves in the handle & the HG does not. I always thought the UG was a straight handle too. Do you prefer the curved handle or the straight handle?

P.S. RobStanley RobStanley . I think I like yours the best, it's like a love child between the two.

They are both really sweet blades but I still prefer the hg-55 although I wish mine was a bit thinner. I’d post a pic but I don’t think I can. But it’s one of those military overrun in the camo pattern.

Assuming my eyes haven't led me astray here, that Custom appears to have been made from an HG-55 Limited Edition blank. Those had a full height convex grind, very nice! I've never seen a convex Urban Grudge variant before, did you order that one direct from the Custom Shop?
Hg55 LE & CG blanks were probably exactly the same until LE's got convexed and satin finished & CG's got the CBT machines or flat ground & coated or machine satin finished, DCBB, etc.
Variant one offs can come from blanks that might have been slightly misground or some other grinding mistake that may cause the blade to fail an inspection & be pulled & set aside as a production model, but still perfectly fine (good HT, etc) for the Custom Shop to grind into a variant- this one might have been either planned from a blank, or a blank slated for LE now reground into a UG (variant).
Rob's is one of the nicer UG's I've seen...well, past my Suburban Grudge of course! LOL 😉😉😉😅🙃🤙

I picked this one up at a Blade Show many moons ago.
