HH FSH mags or no mags if you had a choice?

If you guys had a choice on a HH FSH would you go for mags or standards? I have a HH with standards now, which I like a lot. Then I got the CG FBM with mags and I love the feel of it. Is there any difference between mags on the HH versus the FBM? I'm stuck here.

i hv HH in Snake Skin. I feel awsome with them. Never think about if mags are gonna be better feeler.

I didn't think about it until I got the FBM with them. I love the HH, just wondering. My other problem is if I get mags it probably won't fit in my sheath from Armorall.

Hmmm......from your words seems like you are already in love with mag!
HH with SSstd, I can tell you for sure it is far more balance in hand compare with FBM with SS. Hold it, you feel just right. I think mags on HH will be great to hold too. Can't comment on "which is better" part. Since I don't have a HH in mags. I wish not to mislead the direction.

IMHO, unless u r after SS handle, i'll say get mags.

Next question would be, sell mine or send it in for mags if I go that route, cost for changeover?

I'll say hold your horse and JOIN GANZAAAAAA tonight!

If you SCORE a HEART with DC finish from Custom Shop, do I really need to tell you how to manage your BUSSE :D :D :D :D :D

The mags are nice.

I have one of each and they are like different knives.

I like them both though.

Jus in case it helps, I love my FSH w/mags, but don't care for the mags that much on my FBM. The FBM w/mags has a less blade heavy balance which makes it feel quicker and lighter in the hand, but where the mags on my FSH seem to fit me perfectly in any number of grips and positions, the mags on my FBM feel just a little too large for my hands.

Anyway-for a HH, I would go with the mags (since you asked).

I'm definately eyeing a couple on page 3. Unless I just buy a HH with mags and sell whichever or keep em both, decisions.

I had both configs and sold the one with mags and kept the regulars (duh).

The HHFSH with regular slabs felt better in my mits.....:D

Crafft, have you held an FBM with mags, if so what are your thoughts on the comparison?

Yes I have :D
The feel of the FBMLE and the HHFSH with mags is quite similar! The slabs of my FBMLE and HHFSH mags had exactly the same size and contours.
Because of it's thicker bladesteel the FBMLE is a tad more handfilling.

I got mags on my HH, based on what I'd read here. Thing is, I had to remove material (then remove some more) until I got it to where I thought it was ok.

Fast forward to sending the HH back for a refurb and I got snakeskin. It feels VERY, VERY good to me now. The best feeling knife I have.

I have since acquired a FBM w/ mag G-10 and it felt alright, but not as good as the HH w/ SS. Then I got a FBM tan w/ G-10 blk/tan magnum scales and it felt very good. I measured the difference between the two mags and found the blk/tan to be 1/4" less than the other one.

Out came the Foredom (fancy Dremel) and I made the black G-10 to be the same as the blk/tans.

In addition, I have a FBM in black and one in muddy, both w/ SS. They both feel pretty good, but not as quite as good as the HH. If the HH is 100, the two FBM's w/ SS are 90. The recontoured black G-10 is 95 or so.

You could argue that the mags give you the extra material so you can sand it away until it feels good to you. But that can be a major pain, as well as remove any of the original texture.

As for me, as far as the Fusion handle goes, due to the variation in the magnum scales, I'll be ordering the standard scales from now on.

Very informational Dave, much appreciated, I think I'm gonna stick with the standards slabs for now on the HH. I've been going back and fourth between my HH and FBM to check for feel in the hand and I think the HH feels pretty good as it is. The bigger FBM definately feels better to me with mags. The slighter wider at the spine HH also gives a little bit more to the feel of the HH.

I know this thread is a touch old now, but since I just got a HH with magnums, I thought I'd add my two cents.

I'll do the summing up first, then give you the justification and pics.

I love the HH with Magnums. It's Perfect!

I had previously only held my FBM with standard scales, and thought it was pretty good if a touch on the thin side for me. I found that a little strange as I think I have quite small hands. If anyone is familiar with wall-mounted network data cabinets, I once had to get into a locked and tightly packed one with some new cables. I managed to snake my hand and arm into the bottom rear cable hole, between two switches and to the front, and plugged our cables in. My friend said incredulously as I extracted myself, "what girly-little hands have you got???" So, I thought the standard scales would be best, but no.

Here are the pics. You can click on them for a much larger version.

First, a standard-ish grip. Bit difficult to really grip normally as I'm holding the camera as well. The palm swell fits perfectly into my palm, and my fingers are quite comfortable around the other side:

Now, if I want to get a closer, more controlled grip: The palm swell still fits my palm, just a bit further back, and the fingers still curl neatly around the opposite side. Feels very tight and secure:

Next up, an even closer grip. Once again, it all just fits. The little thumb notch on top now fits the web of my thumb, and my last two fingers slot in front of the palm swell:

If I want a little more chopping power, the grip shifts to the rear. My thumb web now fits just in front of the swell, my index finger in front of the opposite swell and my last two fingers in the dip behind the swell. Lock-up once again:

I didn't test with a lanyard hold for even more chopping advantage, but the grip would put my thumb and first two fingers on opposite sides in the dip. So that should work quite nicely as well.

I hope this is of help to anyone with the "mags/standard" question. Of course this is just for my hands, ymmv.

Rick.
