These Heavy Hearts do have a good feel to them. Heres some pics with a Kydex Fusion sheath from Dwayne & Stacy that I ordered for a HOFSH. The HH almost fits it, the sheath is just a hair to big. There's no rattling around in it but if you were to hold it upside down without locking it in it would slide right out. With the snap on it she's going nowhere. Sweet knife and a sweet sheath.

Cool! Multitaskers are a good thing, just ask Alton. :D

Great!! Now my HH is going to be totally jealous of your LeatherHog sheath. And now I have to spend even more money on this crazy addiction. . . :grumpy:

(That knife/sheath combo looks awesome! I just hope that my HH didn't hear me say that.... )

Just what I need for my HH. When you say kydex obviously you must be referring to the liner as the exterior is leather. About how much would one cost?

Actually the kydex is completely encased within the layers of leather so that it does not contact the blade at all.

Interesting, never realized that was done, just contacted Dwayne and Stacy for pricing. Thanks cleaner.

Here is a picture of a sideview of one of my Kydex Fusion sheaths from Dwayne. He does absolutely top knotch work. It truely is an overbuilt sheath as advertised.

That is a beautiful sheath and clearly over-built, but what is the purpose of kydex (if encased)?

I would normally have thought like digdeep: that the kydex was used as a liner to help prevent the blade from contacting the leather and help prevent corrosion.

But, since the kydex is not next to the blade, I have to assume the addition of kydex is to help stiffen the sheath (????).

You effectively have four layers of leather (two on each side) and then an additional layer of kydex on each side. Tank of a sheath!

Isn't 4 layers of leather enough to keep a sheath straight and rigid?

Relevant to purpose of the kydex and multiple layers, what am I missing?

--------------

Also, (Silas) without having a drop down loop on that sheath, how comfortable is that sheath to carry for such a big knife?
It seems like the handle would be kicking you in the ribs with every step (????).

I believe that the kydex insert adds both rigidity and overall toughness to the sheath. If you were to fall on it on rocks lets say, you might put a hole in the outside layer of leather, but not the kydex. As you said, the thick layers of leather alone are probably enough to make an excellent sheath alone, but Dwayne advertises an overbuilt sheath and that this is. Also my sheath is for a SR RM which like the FSH I would not want to hike with all day, but I attach it to my pack when I go 4 wheelin so weight is not an issue. For just walking around the campsite it is very comfortable. I can promise you would not be disappointed with Dwayne's work.

As to why Dwayne would even consider layering kydex inside of leather ... he feels that leather is the best thing to have close to your blade. That, and somebody asked him if it could be done... he loves a challenge.
The kydex layer just adds the same touch as the hand stitching he does. Yes boys and girls he uses two needles and sews each and every sheath by hand using a saddle stitch.
does that help?

Well the kydex fusion is obviously over-built and maybe too heavy to hike with, but on the other hand many of these big Busse knives are too heavy to hike with anyway. So, maybe a match made in heaven.

Nuclear sheaths for Nuclear knives!!!!

In any event, Dwayne is clearly putting out gorgeous sheaths. I am probably going to have to break down and get one in the not too distant future. I don't know for which knife though .....hmmmmm?

Here is a close-up shot to show the layers. These sheaths are built like tanks but you will really be suprised at how light they are. They, I also have one for a HOSJTLE, were nowhere near as heavy as I thought they would be.

DWRW, I have stood and posed in front of my mirror for hours at a time while wearing this knife and sheath and it has never once poked me in the ribs, never.
:D ;)

Seriously though, with the way Dwayne did the Highride on the back I can wear it cross-draw if I want. No problems with sticking in the ribs.

I have one of these for my EU17. I can't say enough good things about it. This is clearly one of the best sheaths on the market!

My first three Busses each got a sheath from leatherhog. The Fusion version for the Uncle Mofo is a work of art.
