Email sent on R-6 with Monkey pod wood handle!

Had to look up Monkey pod wood, which I'd never heard of:

Pithecellobium saman, AKA monkey pod, samán, raintree. Monkey pod is the best translation, in Greek it's monkey earring. Old-timers might remember a bad movie from 1957, Raintree County: Civil War era bodice-ripper with Montgomery Clift & Liz Taylor.

There's a good botanical article here:

http://www.na.fs.fed.us/spfo/pubs/silvics_manual/volume_2/pithecellobium/saman.htm

Monkey-pod wood has been reported as hard and heavy . . ., and difficult to work. . . . Actually, in Hawaii and elsewhere in the Pacific where it has been used much more extensively than in its native habitat, the wood is considered easy to work, particularly because low shrinkage during drying allows it to be machined while green. Articles made from green wood can be dried without serious drying degrade. . . .

Sounds like a good choice for the road from Bir Gorkha to Reno.

Piso- I remember my father describing Raintree County as "A poor man's Gone With The Wind." :D

Yangdu- What are the approximate dimensions of the HI plaque? And- will it be a regular offering?

Those bowies just don't last long in the shark infested waters. One day I'll have one.

I just have to get one of cousin sister Lucky's hats ...I will have to start sharking just in case there are more left?

Just got my Tibetan wool hat in the mail, and can't wait to test it out in the cold NYS air we've been having as of late. Not only is it beautiful, but it puts all the store bought caps I have in a similar style to shame. The construction of it is SUPERB! I am sure my sons will be trying to find an excuse to use it to wear to school.
Also I want to say "Thank You", Auntie Yangdu, for the very thoughtful and useful gift you enclosed. It is VERY much appreciated.... and really brightened my day !
In my life I have known many who will do NOTHING nice unless they GET something in return, It is refreshing to find that there are still the few who will do something NICE because they WANT TO and expect NOTHING in return.

Blessed Be!

I am in total agreement ... the thoughtfulness and kindness of Yangdu humbles me and is unique.

May Health, Happiness and Peace be unto her!
