Hanging out on this forum for almost a year now, I've learned many things since coming on board and knowing absolutely nothing about a Tide soap box full of "Gurkha knives" inherited from my Dad. The Himalayan Imports forum was found to be super interesting and I was amazed with all the neat knives being offered. The more I read, the more interesting it got (insert HIKV here), but also the more confused I became. I didn't know one khuk from another and there were all those abbreviations being used! WTF do they mean?! Grrrr. Slowly, even more slowly than Bawanna can read, I started to pick up on some of the meanings, but it seemed like there were always more abbreviations hiding in the wings. The decision was made to read the entire HI site and was blown away with the mind boggling array of blades that HI has or had! Figuring that others who swim these waters might be in the same boat as me with these abbreviations, I went back and started compiling a list of most of the abbreviations to share with anyone who would find them useful. Copy and paste to save them if you like. If any of you can throw in a few more and expand the list, please do so.

Hey I can read pretty fast, specially on the small words.

You sir have been doing your home work. I can never remember most of them, ASTK always stumps me, along with many of the others.

I'm in process of making little tags so I can even remember the models and kami's I got. Was just arranging "The Wall" to make room for the latest cherished keepsakes.

Thank you sir for providing a ready reference when I'm drawing a blank. Some of these guys around here are wicked smart and got really good memories too. Hard to keep up sometimes.

Again merci beacoup.

I'm not sure IBBB actually belongs on the list, it's kind of a slang term but I guess we use it enough it might help new folks figure out what we're talkin bout.

Thanks for taking the time to make the list up Bookie. We should have a sticky thread attached to this for newbies and others who aren't familiar with the abbreviations. I learned a couple new things myself, thanks again Bookie!

Thanks Bookie, nice comprehensive list I've ever seen to date.

Like GB said, maybe a "sticky" is in order.

Berkeley - ummm....that's just awesome, I need to stop salivating here, starting to flood my keyboard.

great list and may I be the first to say : holy sh*t ndog, that is fine work

An inch longer, and 9.5 ounces lighter than a longleaf.
That is a beautiful thing.
All the old ones I've ever owned (except my IMA longleaf, and a pioneer calcutta m43) have been witchy light-17" oal and 12 ounces, in the case of the only big one I still have.
