Hey guys I had an account here years ago cant remember the name. So Im kinda new lol.

Anyway just picked up a neck knife out of curiosity. Spiderco Arc. thought it might be good for motorcycle carry being h1 steel. I ride in everything.

Initial impressions are...weird, not that easy to access and interferes with the jade i have worn for 5 years never taken off. I am going to try it for a few weeks see how it works how i get use to it. I am sure i need to get use to wearing something like that on my neck lol.

Any recommendations? Do people usually use these as a back up or do people use them as edc utility. I am of the mind 2 is one one is none. Usually have a fixed blade and a folder. But folders have been tearing up my pockets recently. Sorry for the long post but thanks for any input and look forward to joining the community.....again :D

Hey. Welcome. :)

I had the same experience with neck knives.

Seemed like an interesting idea but in practice was just too cumbersome to get to and put away, especially if I wanted to be discreet. Belt/pants carry for me, all the way, no matter what size the knife.

Yea Ill give it a week or so if not i guess Ill return it or sell it. Im sure these little arcs are popular. However I love my bradford knives 3.5 guardian fits in the hand like a glove.

Welcome and I agree on the Neckknives thing, it needs to be your thing, I can't really get into the idea of wearing a knife around my neck, it seems either weird (IE open carry) or impractical (keeping it tucked under your shirt), plus most neck knives are on the smaller side, so I rather stick to my folders.

I was hoping it would be a nice way to carry on my moto but may end up getting an h1 folder of some sort. Glad im not alone if it feeling weird!

Welcome to the forums ... neck knives are handy in some situations but can get in the way or be annoying doing some things.

I only wear one around camp or maybe while fishing ... but pack it away if hiking or working ... the good thing is most with a good sheaths slip into a pocket well when you need to ....

but I prefer belt carry get a sheath setup with option for horizontal belt carry they disappear.

I never did like the neck carry . You go to grab it in an emergency or fight and it could be moved around anywhere ,even to your back . I also just don't like anything around my neck . Paranoid of being throttled .

Even in your birthday suit , you can rig a merc or one shoulder loop harness . :p

I have a couple neck knives and I liked the concept. In practice I find them a pain in the butt either bouncing around on the outside of your clothes or getting potentially sweaty under a shirt. But the whole idea is to have easy access and under the shirt is not easy access... I prefer belt carry for a fixed blade. The only time I wear a neck knife is fishing or out on my kayak. But I keep a knife on my pfd vest for water emergencies, so the neck knife really isn't important. Use clippers for line and such....

The only neck knife I own is a Fred Perrin La Griffe. It is very small, discreet and functional. But it sits in my chest along with my other non-users because I always prefer to carry a folder over it.

Neck knives remind me of those ID badges that workers wear around their neck. They're always dangling and flopping around and just look to be, literally, a pain in the neck. Not for me. And yeh, I know, if you're wearing a neck knife its probably going to be concealed under some clothing and less likely to flop around, but still, not for me.

Think of it this way- would Charlie Mike wear one:cool:?

I only wear a neck knife when I go to the beach or the lake. The arc is a great design. I know the guy whose brainchild it was, and it's a very solidly thought out knife. One of my favorites of the genre.

Still, for day to day, gimme a folder or fixed on my belt.
