I am interested in buying a good tactical folder that won't break the bank. I live in the "Peoples Republic" of New Jersey, so I can't have anything too exotic for an EDC.

I was thinking about a CRKT Cascade Lockback combo edge. Anyone have an opinion? I would like to keep the purchase price to be $50 or under. So fire away!!!

You're in the wrong part of the world, friend. :) We're traditionalists, here. Now, ask about a slipjoint, and there, we can really help. Try posting this in General, and you should do better.

I am in the General Knife Discussion. Is there a certain board within the forums that I should be on?

Actually, this is the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades forum:

BladeForums.com: The Leading Edge of Knife Discussion > General Knife Discussion > Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades

which is a subset of the general. You want the "Blade Discussion forum" which is also a subset of the General:

BladeForums.com: The Leading Edge of Knife Discussion > General Knife Discussion >Blade Discussion Forum

Sorry that wasn't made clear....

I realize you've been steered to the right forum but if you want a not too flashy EDC that isn't a stockman, canoe, peanut, or trapper I got the only two word you'll ever need to hear: SPYDERCO DELICA

Got ya covered on the move.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

New Jersey restricts sales of knives with blades over 5" to people under 18 years of age. Other than that, exotic is OK. :) Autos and gravity knives are also OK for collectors, not public carry.

Knives carried aggressively for self-defense could get you into an argument with the legal system. But a good strong utility knife that happens to be handy when someone gets aggressive with you is legal.

You can carry any of the ordinary tactical knives that come up here for discussion. CRKT has a pretty good line. I like Spyderco for that level of knife myself, but the CRKT will bring you in at the lower price.

I am gonna say Spyderco as well. Endura, Delica, Native, Goddard, any of these would make useful edc knives which would be totally appropriate for SD, ok well as totally appropriate as a folder can be for sd;-)>
