ok here goes my name is phil and have been trying to make knives for a little while now
i am only on like my 8th knife i have ever tried to make (its in the oven tempering as i write this)
my reason for joining this is that Robert Dark of Dark Custom Knives (Roosko) and i have been talking for quite some time now and he and i have actuall managed to become sorta like distant friends ("Hi Robert")
he has encouraged me to get my tail end on here so here i am wanting to learn/discuss more about our beloved hobby (more like obsession)
i have recently had a pretty major car accident and has left me very low on funds or i would post some pics and upgrade my acount
this is also the cause of my not making many more knives lately

well here i am robert and i plan to demolish your challenge i think i have about 7 months left to make it :p

Welcome, Phil! I met Robert on Paltalk not too many months back. If you've never spoken to him on the phone or anything, do so. His voice is a treat along with the fine man behind it.

I hope the healing and recovery from the accident proceed apace.

Again, welcome. Good folks here.

Phil, great to have you here in the forum always nice to have new blood
when you get a chance post some pics of your work. I am sure you
will like it here there are many wonderful people and so much knowledge
it will make your head spin, Hope you recover quickley and all is well
again welcome and have a good time here.

Hi, glad to have you aboard. Just so you know, while you'd have to pay to upload your pics into the gallery here, if you use a free photohosting site (I like http://photobucket.com ) you can link it here and put image tags on it and the pics will show.

Hi Phil:

Glad you made it to Blade Forums. Sit back, relax, and get ready to make new friends.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, however, do yourself a favor and use the "Search" button first. There is a world of information at your fingertips.

Look forward to seeing you post some of your work.

Hope you are recovering from your accident.

Your Friend.......

Robert

Thanks Fitz............. At least I have you fooled. Hope you and my wife never meet, as she may beg to differ with you. :D

Welcome Phil. Youve picked a heck of a guy to help you in your knifemaking Travels. Do as Andrew said and get a free hosting acct so that we can see some of your work. Good to have you.

Hey be careful how you interpret what Robert says (he lives in Alabama). Robert is just as fine a fella in person as he is on the forums. You ought to come east and visit him the end of September, say around the 24th. Maybe he'll treat you to a short trip over the State line for a little bootleg forging.
You'll be glad he hooked you up with this bunch. Just don't ask for opinions unless you want to stay up reading all night. The "living knowledge" pool here is overwhelmingly deep. This is a resource that most of us didn't have access to when we got the addiction many years ago. It's really something.

Looking good! Welcome to the forums. I like the way you did the handle, bet it feels good in the hand.

Nice knife, the winewood dymondwood looks pretty good as so few of the color varieties do. I do my handle the exact same way, half-full tang dealy, I find it works out pretty well. Did you slot a block or have two side slabs with a spacer piece under the tang? I can't tell from the pic if there's join lines or not.

it was made from one solid block i have gobs of woodworking tools jigs and gadgets at my disposal (not to mention the help of my father who was a master carpenter/cabinet/mold maker fo ideas and such) one of these days im going to try and do a dovetail joint on the botom of the handle kinda as a goof just to see what it looks like

i can still only manage to stay in front of the workbench for a little bit at a time as i am still in a great deal of pain from my car accident about a month ago

thanks for all the looks and replies so far keep em comming i do like the feedback especially from my peers

p.s. i just managed to gets my hands on some wood from my friend who works at a mojor high end cabinetry shop out in pacific grove how bout some 600 year old oak for one a huge peice of birds eye maple and some african mohagony (hope i spelled that one right)
