Dear Bladeforums,

NEEDED ARE

3X 15-inch or bigger HI Khukuris (Ang Khola etc.) - Used, Blems or Villager Models no problem

1X 12-inch Ang Khola (or similar smaller Khukuri)

2X Mini Bowie (or other shorter knives, but thick blade)

INFO

My name is Bastian, I am from Berlin (Germany), but travelling the last 5 years and stay at the moment in Texas.

We will leave in about three weeks to South America, where we will try to find a place in the Amazon Rainforest to establish a permaculture project and found a self-sufficient community in the jungle. The whole project of planting a food-forest of fruit trees and vegetable/corn/rice fields for a self-sufficient community will be very hard work, but since we plan on going as far away from civilization as possible inside to Amazon, the following years of travel out in the jungle will be daily survival as well. Once we are out there in the jungle we will be without access to any equipment, so we need to get equipped now as long lasting as possible - I have confidence that the HI Khukuris will be durable enough for the hard job, but if you have something similar to offer, any advice is welcome!

I am together with my girlfriend and my best friend - We need a hard use daily chopping tool for fire wood and shelter building and later to cut wood for huts and communal houses and clearing vegetation for the new trees...

Each of us need a reliable chopping tool, so I am looking for three 15-inch or bigger HI Khukuris (Ang Khola etc.) - Used, Blems or Villager Models are fine!

I addition I am looking for one 12-inch Ang Khola and 2 Mini Bowies (or other shorter knives, but thick blade), since I still need 2 durable knives for my girlfriend and myself and if my budget is enough, I would bring another smaller HI 12-inch AK for another friend.

Thank You!

Best Regards,

Bastian Greupner

I like a kukhri as much as the next guy, but don't you think that maybe the tools the locals use - machetes - might be better suited to the job?

I think you need to clarify this post's intention; are you looking for advice, or are you trying to place an order for the items you mentioned? If it's the latter, you would be better off emailing Auntie Yangdu.

have fun in the jungle! :)
i dont see a problem with using a kukri in the jungle, as long as the handle doesn't rot and you have the strength..some Filipino designs would work well too im sure(pinute, ginunting, golok, and barong to name a few that work well in the jungle)..
on a side note one thing i found is that shear strength isnt enough to get through the jungle, sometimes moving with the forest more like a small deer or animal instead of a lumbering human who needs a massive path to travel along is in your best interest..funny the locals in central africa used garden shears(small 2 inch blade scissors basically) to get through the jungle instead of massive machetes..its easier just to snip a few vines when you do get hung up than to cut everything..
anyway good luck..heavy blades fatigue the user more quickly..i prefer a heavy blade for chopping and light one for slashing through brush...

Hello,

yeah, to 'slash' through vegetation we can use light local machetes, but since I don't plan on getting back from there (except the first year to bring in baby trees/seeds/food until we have enough harvest) I am looking to get a thick-blade chopper that hopefully last me a lifetime!

Oh yeah and to clarify the posts intention - [ Post edited for sales content]

, since HI is low on stock and doesn't have the knives I am looking to purchase right now.

Thank You!

Hello Bastian and Welcome!

I am sorry that HI does not have what you need at the moment, It has been a tough time for us this last year or so. The economy, political climate in Nepal and logistics have made things quite difficult for our own endeavors. If you are able to check back with us in a few months time, perhaps we would have enough stock to supply your endeavor. You have caught us at a bad time.

I'm sure you know the dangers of what you are planning. The Amazon is very unforgiving and will test you and your friends in ways unthought of and far beyond any limits known to you. While I applaud your idea, I also urge you not to rush into this and take utmost care in your planning. Your life will likely depend on it.
I also urge you to consider going larger with your khukuri purchase. A 15 inch khukuri is likely too small to suit what you are planning. A 15 inch khukuri will serve as a sidearm for your plans, but for chopping you will find that a 16.5- 18 inch khukuri will be far more effective for your needs.

Unfortunately, we do not allow private sales in discussion forums here and especially not on the showroom floor.
I am going to copy your post to the "Want to Buy" section of our site, where private sales are allowed.

Edit: Apparently you already posted a WTB thread, please take time to familiarize yourself with the posted forum rules:
