First up what an amazing site you guys have here, this is THE BEST place for knife info on the vast interwebs! So I'm turning here for a little help. As there is so much info here it's overwhelming.

My fathers birthday is coming up and I really wanted to replace his current EDC. He's currently carrying a kershaw leek and the reasons he likes it are, 1) he likes the open assist, 2) he likes how slim it is, as he ALWAYS has it in his jeans he had this knife for a LONG time, the blade has been sharped so many times it doesn't even look like the same knife, however it does still function.

So I'm looking for some recommendations that I could get him for his birthday. I would like an EDC knife that has good quality materials, perhaps something thats really smooth to open and close (doesn't have to be open assist but some kind of flipper and the smoother the better, IKBS perhaps?) and has to be slim and fit nicely in a pocket, and am happy to shell out up to $200.00-ish for this gift (if thats not reasonable let me know, i'm a knife noob)

Thanks all.

One of my favorite knives is the Shallot, the big brother of the Leek. 4.125" handle, 3.25 blade, also very slim, just over .25". I have the all-stainless and the black-coated versions myself. Opens only by flipper with assisted opening.

I too was going to say Shallot. I've got the composite blade model. Nice knife. Maybe take a look at Mcusta knives as well.

BM 530 is very slim and light, though no assist/flipper. As said above, Shallot is a good way to go.

I am also balding :thumbdn:  and i suggest looking at Spyderco's lineup.

maybe a brand new model of the same one he has been carrying? he could retire the old one.

Whoops... I guess I am in the wrong forum, cause I have a full head of hair :D

I would say a Blur.
