Hi, I have a 1985 or 86 Buck 639 fieldmate, it's the first year mark < I have read that they were bead blasted, but it looks like powder coating,I like the knife but it scratches easy, I don't like the finish and the way the Kraton handel is getting loose, I'm removing the finish, if it's bead blaster I can have it refinished if I want to sell it, but I'm not sure, I don't think there is a way to tighten the handel. Sounds like someone painted it. Bead blasting was the standard finish only on the 639 FieldMate.(bottom two in pic)
All others in the series had satin finished blades.
I have no experience with the handle problem but trying to inject something like
epoxy down inside thru the tang opening comes to mind.
