HI Everest Katanas?

I've heard good things about Himalayan Import's Kukris, and I have heard that their Everest Katanas are also pretty tough. However, I'm interested in how they compare to similarly prices Katanas like Cold Steel's 1050 Katanas. Anybody able to compare? How's the Everest Katana's edge retention?.....resistance to shock?.....resistance to chipping? Any advice would be appreciated. I assume that the Everest Katana is forged similarly to HI's Kukris, only with a differential tempering.

FYI, the khuks are differentially tempered as well. A search on the HI forum should yeild some results, as I recall one forumite did some light prying and brush removal with his and it sustained no damage.
