Welcome to Bladeforums. There are a lot of great guys and gals here,a lot of experience, too. A knife kit is a good start. Most all the suppliers carry them. I highly recommend getting two or three catalogs anyway (you will need to order stuff ,eventually). Texas Knife Supply, Jantz, K&G (knife and gun finishing supply),and Pop's are some good folks to deal with. Darren Ralph has a good kit and supply company, Knifekits,

At the top of this forum page is a couple of "stickies" (permanent threads),for new makers and finding suppliers. Read the getting started one well. There is a lot of frequently asked info there.
Think Safety, you don't want to start a new hobby and ruin your life.
Take your time, a kit is a good start, then start slowly and build your skills. You won't go from knife kit to sword maker in a week or two!

Learn to do a search on this forum, most newbie questions are asked about twenty times a year. The search tool is at the top of the page.
We can be grouchy, and we can be playful - sometimes it is hard to tell the difference - don't let us ruffle your feathers.
Do yourself, and us, a favor and fill out your profile. We can't answer many questions (Or offer to have you come over for help) if we don't know things like - where you live, how old you are, what kind of work you do/did.etc.
Again, welcome!
