Hello

I plan to eventually buy a few (read lot) of smaller straight knives. Some for me, some for gifts ( I plan to get one for my father for his birthday in June, of before if he goes on another fishing trip).

I would like to have the blade lenght for those smaller knives. Also, wich one is your favourite?

Thanks
Marco

my fav is the jkm karda and thats about 8" iirc :)
2nd fav is r-6 sarge knife thats also about 8" iirc

8" overall or 8" blade?

Does IIRC means "I'm trying to remember under wich pile of khuks on wich couch I've put them..." ?

My r-4 has a 3 3/4" blade with a 4" handle.

The r-4 is the only small one I have, so I guess it's my favorate so far.

A Sgt. Kadka super bilton if you want a khuk shape, If you want a small streight blade I really liked my r-3, probably about 8" overall.

The JKM-1 is too small in the handle for me. The Kumar Karda fits better. The biltons are just big enough to hang on to. One of these days I'd like to get a YCS Karda but for now I'd have to give the KK the thumbs up for best small blade.

Frank

P.S. Don't have a tape measure handy but the bilton and the KK are about 10" OAL with about 5.5" blades.

I should be more precise about my needs:

For my Dad, a ±4" blade woudl be nice.

For me? I started to EDC fixed blades, so 3-3,5" blade is fine. I think I'll get a Rusty SD.

I think I'll get a Rusty SD.

i knew i didn't have to post. i read this thread a couple times and left it alone to see where it was headed. i think you should both get the rusty. it may need some work, though, mine did. much time on the stone but it glides right through newsprint now and shaves with a little pressure. i have much sharper knives, some that shave with the lightest touch, but they probably wouldn't stand up to harsh treatment like this would. not that you need a 4" knife to withstand harsh treatment, but who on this forum buys knives out of reason?
